REFRIGERATOR.'
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 17, 190e.
Application filed August 1,1903. Serial No. 167.916.
`To au whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIZA C. KINDRIcK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and use-A ful Refrigerator, of which the following is a speciiication.-
My invention is an improvement in refrigerators; and the object of the invention-is consists of the novel features of construction kand combination of parts hereinafter described, particularly pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying y drawings, in .which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my rerigerator. Fi 2 is a vertical section through the re igerator; and' Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, the filter and a portion of the Ventilating-pipe being in elevation.
In the drawings, A represents the exterior casing of the retrigerator, which may be of polished oak or any suitable wood. The interior lining B is of zinc or-porcelain and is secured to an inner" casing A. A suitable packing material A2 is arranged between the casings A and A. Sup orted by suitable cleats and cross-bars is a orizontal partition C, arranged just above the bottom of the in-` ner casing. Restin on this partition and transverse to it are t le verticall partitions C',
and a'horizontal` partition C, arranged between the partitions C', about midway their.
hei ht, completes-'the permanent divisional wa s.. This arrangement givesa milk-compartment taking up 'the lower portion of the refrigerator, an ice-compartment (shown at C3) arrangedT inthe central portion of the refrigerator, a water-compartment'immediately above the ice-compartment, and meat and vegetable compartments oneach side of the water and ice compartments. v Cleats C4 sliding slotted partitions C. rest on the cleats.
.An opening 1s formed in the top of the refrigerator, and a porous filter D is larranged in the water-compartment 'and extends upward through the top of the refrigerator. A discharge-faucet E is arranged in the front of the water-compartment,` by means of which the water may be drawn oil' for use. Suitable doors of the usual type are adapted to close the front of vthe compartments, expipting the watercompartment, which is ssl ed through the iilter and cleanedby removal of the latter. Small perforations F are formed in the u per portionof each door excepting that of tlie ice-compartment, and these erforations may be closed by small plugs F. The doors all swing in a horizontal plane with the exception ofthe door to the milk-compartment, which is hin ed along its lower edge and swings vertical y. Perair to settle in this lower compartment and also allowing drainage for Water from the melting of the ice. A short` drain-pipe H opens downwardly through the iioor of the inilk-compartment. A Ventilating-pipe I extends up the rear of the refrigerator and at its lower end communicates With the upper portion of the milk-compartment. Branch pipes J lead from the yupper portions of the side compartments through the rear wall and communicate with the vertical pipe I, which latter pipe opens upwardly above the top of the refrigerator.
It-will be obvious that byl removing the plug F a thorough ventilation of the milk and vegetable compartments will be had, preventing the accumulation of- JfoulV air therein and the. consequent taintin of the milk, vegetables, and meats. It Wil be further noted that no long drain-pipes are used, as such pi es would be difficult to keep clean., Additiona compartments may be formed by parting from the construction here outlined, and wherepure water isobtainable the filter may be omitted andv theo ening in the top .closed bya suitable cover. he side compartforations G are formed in the partition C, ad-
`inserting extra divisional walls without de.
IOO
mentsprovide separate chambers in which -to lace meats and vegetables.
, aving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire lto secure byr` Letters Patent, is
A reigerator comprising aplurality of mi" armee co 'partments having doors in the front 1 their upper edge, and means for closing' said -thereto and adapted to contain articles'ofperforatlons.
food, a Ventilating-pipe arranged vertically at the rear of said refrigerator and having ELILZA C' K'INDRXCK communication withV the 1ower ortion of i Witnesses: Said refrigerator, the dors of sai Vcom lpart- JENNIE D. OGLESBY, ments having each a. perforation Vadgaoen'ol VIRGIE SIMMONS.
