The feed-roller 25 is located opposite the front lower portion of the -cylinder B, being practically mounted at the upper section a of the extension A from the cheek-pieces, while the lower roller 26 is journaled in the inner or deeper section a of the sald extension', as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 and indicated in Fig. 1. In front of the two foriiard feed-rollers and 26, opposite the point where the two rollers substantially engage, a table 27 is formed, which extends from the lower edge of one member a of the cheek extension A to the o posip member or section a, as is shown aso in igs. 1 and 2. A third feed-roller 28 is employed, and this third feed-roller 28 is journaled in the cheek-pieces A in auch manner that it willengage with the bed-roller C at the upper rear portion thereof, as is illustrated in Fig. 2. The rear feed-roller 28 is journaled in what may be termed swinging and adjustably-Inounted bearings 29. Under this form of bearing, into the hubs of which the trunnions 281`ofthe rear feedroller 28 are mounted to turn, the said feedroller may be adjusted to or from the bedcylinder C or may be adjusted upward or ldownward tangentially to the said bed-cylinder. The upper forward feed-roller 25 is prov vided with a swinging adjustable bearing 29a,
so thatit may be adjusted to or from its mating or lower feed-roller 26 but the trunnions 26a of the lower forward feed-roller 26 are simply journaled in the frame, and this roller 26 does not need to be adjustable. l
At a suitable point between the u per and lower ends of the main .sections of the cheek pieces of the frame recesses 31 are formed in the rear edges of the said main sections A, adapted to receive the trunnions 3Oft of a spool 30, as is shown in'Figs. l and 2,' the said spool being removabled'rom' the said recesses. On the spool the aper 32 to be printed upon is wound, and t is paper: is led forward between the rear feed-roller 2,8 and the bed-roller C, then between the bed-roller C and the printing-roller B, and the paper after receiving its impression is passed through the forward feed-rollers 25 and 26 and overthe table 27 to be acted upon by a v feed-roller 25 at the geared side eresie cutting mechanism located at' the forward end of the machine.
The rear feed-roller 28 is driven by means nion at that eide of the machine where the gearing 23 and 2e is loceted, and the pinion 34A fneshes with the teeth of the gear 24. The forward feed-rollers 2,5 and 26 are driven in the following manner: A. pinion 36 is mounted on the trunnion 25a of the upper forward o; 'the frame, and this pinion 'meshes with a pinion 38, located on the trunnions 26S of the lower for- Ward feed-roller 25, also at the geared side of the frame, The pinion 38 meshes with the teeth of the pinion 36, while the teeth of the pinion 38 meshes with the teeth of a pinion 39, located below it and mounted to turn on a stud d0, carried by 'the frame. The said pinion 39 meshes with the teeth o1c the gear 24, carried by the bed-roile'r C. l
The cutting mechanism consists of a frame D and a knife E, which is carried by the frame. The frame is located at the forward upper portion of the machine at the terininai ends of the sections c of the extension A from the mani portieri A of the cheek-pieces, as is best shown in Figs. i, 2, and 4.' This frame ,extends from side to side of the machine and consists ci an upper iront plate 41, side members 42, with which the plate is ingrally made or to which the plate is attached, and a lower cross-bar 43, extending from one side 42 to the other, having members 43E", which extend rearwardly to a sliding engagement with the lower edge of the forward upper sections a of the iraineVas is also shown in Figs. 1, 2, and fi, together with rearwardlyextending arme 4d, carried from the sides 42 of the frame, which arms d4- are mounted to slide in slidewaye `or slots 45, produced inv the said frame .enibe'rs' or sections a', as is best shown in Li, and each ci the arms 44 is provided with an outwardly-extending foot 46 at its inner end. It will be observed thait the operation of the knife is thoroughly autbmatic, and, as has been heretofore stated, the knife can act to its feed and uckle in the slightest A egree at the rear of the knife dur.- in' its cutting action. L l
iaving thus described lour invention, we claim as new and desire td secure by Letters Patenty Ji. In a printing-press, a main frame, va printing-cylinder mounted in the frame, a paper-feed device also mounted in the frame, a Sliding and spring-pressed auxiliary frame mounted in the mainframe, a knife mounted for cutting and Withdrawal movements on the said auxiliary frame, which movements are at an angle to the sliding movement of the auxiliary frame in the main frame, an actuating device for the said auxiliary frame Without causing the paper'to speed as the speed at 62 will be alternately `sion-controlled auxiliary frame, links in parallel order main frame, a knife connected With the said .frame by links, one' of the links being prox vided with' an extension, a sprin bearing on the extension link, normally olding the knife in an upper position, means for enrilag'- ing the extension from the su portingli';v of the knife to force the knife own to cutting position, and means for impartin an advance movement to the auxiliary ame at the time the knife is in its lowermost or cutting lposition and at ractically thesame wlhich the paper is fed, as described.

In rinting-presses, a mainframe, feed devices or the paper, a sliding and springprressed auxiliary frame mounted in the mam ame, a support over which the palper is adapted to pass, cams arranged for a ing the said auxiliary frame and releasing the same at intervals, a driving connection between the said cams and the feed devices, a tension-controlled knife mountedto slide on the auxiliary frame, links pivoted to the auxiliary frame and to the kn1fe,'one ofthe links having an extension, and a`movable member for en aging the extension of the lin'k to move 51e knife into cutting position, as described.
