OLGA EMILIE BULEY, OF SHEPHERDS BUSH, LONDON, ENGLAND.
APPLIANCE FOR RETAINING BLANKETS, RUGS. AND SIMILAR COVERINGS IN POSITION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 3, 1906.-
To (all whom, it may concern."
Be it known that I, OLGA EMILIE BULEY, a subject of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 68 Bassin Park road," Shepherds Bush, London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Appliances for Retaining Blankets, Rugs, and Similar Coverings in Position on the User, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to improvements in appliances for retaining blankets, rugs, and similar coverings in position on the user, and although more particularly intended for use in preventing children from throwing off their bedclothes is not confined to that one use, as it may also be employed to retain a rug in position on the user when on board ship or elsewhere.
In carrying my invention into effect I proceed in or in about the following manner, making reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan of the appliance. Fig. 2 shows how the appliance is used. Figs. 3 and 4 show, respectively, a back view and a sectional side view of a clip for use with the appliance.
I provide two braces a and I), of any suitable material and made of a fixed length or so that by buckles or other means the length may be varied.
I The belts a and b are placed across each other, as shown in the drawings, and at the crossing-point are fastened together by a tape, as at c, or by a cross-loop or other suitable means.
At one end of each brace is a loop of cord d, on which runs a clip or catch e of such formation that it will keep at any position on the loop in which it may be placed. At the 0pposite end of each brace is a knob of any suitable shape.
The appliance is worn like an ordinary pair of braces, the ends with the knobs f being behind the wearer. Assuming the appliance to be in this position, one of the knobs f is drawn forward under the wearers arm and the blanket or other covering 9 placed over it. The loop (1 of the same brace is then placed over the blanket and round the inclosed kno b f and the loop tightened by drawing up the clip 6, so as to prevent the blanket coming off the knob. The other of the braces is dealt with in the same manner, and the blanket will be found to be securely held in place, so that the child cannot shake it OK.
Any suitable clip 6 may be employed; but in Figs. 3 and 4 I show a very convenient snapclip consisting of a base h, upstanding sides a, and u standing ends 1', each end having two holes for the cords d to run through.
Between the sides i is pivoted one end of the snap Z, having a bent end m, which when the snap I is shut down pinches the cords cl against the base it and keeps the clip in the required position, into which it has been run while the snap I is opened.
The clip may be made of any suitable material or combination of materials, and to prevent the cords being cut a two-holed ball a may be provided for the cord to run through directly it leaves the clip 6.
Besides its use for keeping blankets on children when in bed the appliance is very convenient for holding in position the rugs used by travelers.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An appliance for retaining blankets and other coverings on the user, the said appliance consisting of two braces placed across one another and held at the crossing-point by suitable means: a knob at two of the corresponding ends of the braces, a loop at the other two corresponding ends, and means for tightening the loops round their corresponding knobs when laced thereover, substantially as hereinbe -ore described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence two subscribing witnesses.
OLGA EMILIE BULEY.
