In constructiona vertically-adjustable stand 15' providedcomprising pillars C, having a base a, and 0, having a base a, connect-. ed rigidly together by'a brace 7) near the lower portions'thereof and .bya rod 0 near the tops thereof, the rod having'adjusting-nuts d d e e on the end portions thereof. Extension-piecesD D, having slots so, also comprise parts of the pillars, against which they 0 and nuts e e and by bolts f f and nuts 9 9, arranged below the rod c. The tops of the pieces D D are rovided with lateral branches h, upon w 'ch the body E of the desk is bolted, so as to be detached for packing and shipping purposes. f
The desk-body E comprises a rear top part F, in the top of which is a groove 1', for holding pencils and the like, the part also having an I aperture j, into which an ink-well may be set,"
and sockets 7c, 1, and-mfor supporting the copy holder in different ositions. In the front of the body on the bottom thereof.
are placed and adj ustably secured by the rod I The adjustable supports for the combined w'riting-tableiand easel comprise two brackets G and G of identical form, each having a bolt-hole p to receive a bolt 7, on which is a nut s, and two props H and H, having each a slot t'therein, through which the bolt .1" extends, a prop being adjustably secured to the front] of a bracket by the bolt and its nut, 1 each bracket having a flange g, by which it is secured rigidly to the under side of the top part F at or near the forward edge thereof,
the prop extending through-the body bottom.
The combined table and easel J, which also forms a lid for the desk-body, has two hinge parts I and I secured thereto at the rear edge thereof, which are pivoted to the tops of the ing screw-holes o to receive securing-screws. The lid part has a small ledge w on the front .props H H by pintles u, the hinge parts havroo' edge thereof to serve as 'a guard and rest, the
lid being more or less inclined either upon th body as a lid or elevated as an easel. I
The copy-holder comprises abase K, a metal frame-L, and'a fabric web attached to the frame and preferably comprising a front M and a back'M, to which copies or speciv mens may be attached by means of pins. The
base rests upon the top part F, and the frame has projections y extending through the base into the sockets 7c and Z and may be removed 5 therefrom and inserted in the sockets Z and m. Also the holder may be reversed, so that the back M may be used as the front part when found desirable. The copy-holder is of suitable size to be stored on the bottom of the re body of the desk when not in use.
In practical use the nuts 6 e and g g may be manipulated and the height of the deskbody adjusted to suit the student, and for Writing or sketching thereon the lid part J may rest on the body, the props extending through the bottom thereof, or the props may be elevated more or less to suit the student and be held by the binding-nuts thereof, and the table or lid part may be turned upwardly on its hinges to gain access to the interior of the body. Anything that is to be copied may be pinned to the copy-holder or leaned against it. l/Vhen an easel is desired, the props may be further elevated, so as to 2 5 hold up the rear edge of the lid part, while the front edge thereof may rest upon the top of the body part, as in Fig. 3, the forward por- 7tion of the body being open, so that access may be had to the instruments therein.
