@muted mmh 2o, 190e.
To all whom' lit may cora/cern Be it known that I,WILLIAM G. SCHAEFFER,
Readin ,in the county of Berks and State of Pennsy vania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Saddle-Posts, of whichthev following is a speciiication. y A
Thisinvention relates to vimprovements in adjustable seat-posts for cycles; and the object of the invention is to provide a pinchbinder for seat-posts of com aratively simple construction, one that will b tion, and neat in appearance.
, My device dispenses entirely with the unsightly method of slotting the cycle-frame and fitting a clamping-bolt through the rear stays, as is usually done, this construction being troublesome in adjustment and weakeningwth parts.
' y invention is fully described in the accompanyi-ng specification and clearly shown in the-drawings forming a part hereof, in which- Figure l shows a side elevation of aportion vof a cycle-frame With my invehtionthereon.l
Fig. 2 is a plan view-of the'same with the seatpost removed.
The numeral- 1 designates the frame, 2 they seat-mast tube, and 3 the top rail.V Inthe top of the seat-mast tube I provide a slotted steel collar 4, having a flange 5 on its upper end.
Thel numeral 6 designates lthe binderscrew. This screw passes through the top rail 3 of the frame in front of the seat-mast tube and comprises a bolt 6a and a nut 7 on `the opposite side ofthe frame. The screw is sufficiently long to engage the nut7 and a movable block 8 is arranged on this pin or bolt. When the bolt is tightened up, the block 8 is drawn against the outer surface of the slotted collar 4 at one side, and the nut 7 is similarly drawn against said c ollar at the opposite side, thus causing it to firmly grasp the seat-post 9. The adjustment iis simple and the parts easy of access.
Having thus fully described lmy invention,
what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters screw said nut and block capable of .bein
moved -by the turning -of said screw an adapted to contact with theouter surface of said slotted collar and cause it to grasp the. seat-post.y
In testimony whereof I afIiX my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
wM. G. soHAEFEER.
