Description

lfA UL FROST, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
Specitezttion of Letters Patent.
atented March 20, 1906.
Application ledlAugust 7,1905. Serial No. 273,120.
Be it known that l, PAUL FROST, a subject ol' the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing nt Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful .improvements in leighingealesz and l. do hereby declare the following to be a l'ull, clear, and exact description ol" the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe aceomlmny ing drawings, and to letters and iiguresof reference marked there-e on, which form n part ol2 this specification.
This invention relates to weighing-scales, and ,has for its object to simplify the structure andto increase their accurae f and stability, as will hereinafter be described and -their' structure particularly claimed. Refer-rim; to the drawings, in which. like parts are similarly designated, Figure l an elevation, Fig. 3 a side view, and Fig. 3 a section on line A l5 of Fig` 2, of one form. 0f weighing-scales embodying my invention.
The frame consists of a base 4, having secured thereto a standard e for the support of the movingr parts. This standard is bent, as shown in Fig. 2, to have a l'reel depending end v5 parallel with the body o'l the standard- In. the depending portion 5 and the body of the standard u, is fixed the pivot-pin I), having reduced portions or knife-et'lgesm, the case mayA be. the pivot-pin bear on the reduced portions or knife-edges m and are rigidly secured to the scale-'arms (l d, ,said scale-arms being levers ol' substantially Z shape, the one d carrying the graduated scales 7 and the other d the pointers or iinleX-bamls 8. Both of these lever-arms may or may not be provided with detachable weigh ts f).
The seele-pan i is mounted on the vertically-movable post t, that has a central longitudinal slot l0, through which the pivotpin l) passes, so that the axis ol" the post 'IH t. e, the line ol weight-passes through the axis ol' the pivotal support b.
ln order that the post will move vertically, there are provided on the standard (L ears l near the top and-bottoni, which mayor l *may not be integral with the standard rl..
the upper ears nre plvoted arms t', whose f 'llo outer ends are pivoted to the post v, and to the lower ears l are pivoted similar arms i", whose Vlree endsl enter a slot ll in the lower part of post and are held in place by pivotm pin 'lhe ell'ective.lengtlr-tlnit is, the
Yokes c, through whose ears 6 pas overhanging distance between the centers of theI pivots at their opposite ends is substantially the same, thereby'ferming a parallel motion.
On the yokes c are formed perfmated. ears g, in which engage the hook ends of links f, whose lower ends are pivoted on a pin 13, common to beth of them and ixed in the post i. Y
Articles to be weighed are placed on the pan h, which descends With the post t', and links f, whose hook ends pull down and rotate the yok'es c 0n their knife-edges m and at the same time move the Z-shaped arms d d apart, rotating them on m as a center, thereby lifting the yWeights 9 and increasing'thcir leverage. l l
It may be stated that the simplicitj)T of the structure will permit the parts to be made of sheet metal suitably formed, all the 'parts of the present structure, excepting the posti and weights 9, being shown as Vso made.
Having thus described my invention, what v I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a Weighing-scale, the combination with a Vertically-movable post and scale-pan on the upper end of said post, of a pair of Weighted levers, a Vpivot common to both of them, mea-ns to operatively connect the post and levers, the axis of said post intersecting the pivot-pin below the scale`pan.
2, In a weighingscale, the combination with a scalepan and a verticallymovable post supporting the same, said post having a ongitudinal slot therein, of a pivot-pin passing throughv the slot, weighted leverarms mounted on the pin, and links connecting the post and lever-arms, substantially as described.
l In a weighing-scale, the combination with a base, a standard having an-up er portion with a depending ein a scale-pan and a post supporting it having a longitudinal slot therein, of a pair oi' Weighted Z-shaped le ver-arms7 a ivot-pin common to both of them mounted in the standard and depending end and passing through the slot,
`links connecting the. post and lever-arms, a
sleale on one ofv the arms and an index or vpointer on vthe other, substantially as described.
4. ln aiweigliing-scale, the combination with a base and standard, ol' a scale-pan and movable post therefor having a longitudinal slot, arms pivoted to the standard and post to maintain the post vertical during its move- TOO ment, e ivot-pin` mounted in the standard, Weighte lever-arms pivoted on the pin, and links connecting the post and lever-arms, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
5. In a weighing-scale, the combination with n standard, of a verticali movable post, o. scale-pun supported there y, a pivotpin mounted in thestandard, yokes c mounted on the pin, scale-levers connected to the yokes and also mounted on the pin, and links connecting the levers and "post, substantially l as described.
, 6. In a Weighing-scale, the combination with a sheetmetal hase and sheet metal standard overhanging the base, of n pivotpin mounted in the standnrd and overhan ing portion, a scale-pan, e vertioally-moveb e slotted post to support the pen, said pin passing through the s ot, sheet-metal arms pivoted to the standard and post, sheet-metal yokes c having erforations therein and -Vmounted on the pin, Z-shnped, Weighted 1ever-arms pivoted on the pin, each connected to 'a yoke, and sheet-metal links having hook ends that engage the perorations in the yokes and Whose op osite ends are pivoted to the post, substantlally as described.
In testimon that I claim the foregoing as my invention have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PAUL FROST.
