Description

G; W. HEENB.
BLANK APIfL IOATION FILED saw. 9. 1904.
PATENTED MAR. 20, 1906.
I I n bnfo'a 6%, Witness GEORGE w. HEENE, or CLEVELAND,- OHIOQASSIGNOR To THE AUTOMATIC portant feature of the blank,
v UNITED STATE P N ()FFI'CE;
STAMPING MACHINE COMPANY, OF PHCENIX, ARIZONA TERRITORY,
A CORPORATION OF ARIZONA To all whom, it may concern:
- Be it known that I, GEORGE W. HEENE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blanks, of which the following is a specification. f
My invention relates to blanks for stamping, such as are adapted to have letters or characters formed in relief thereon.
The-objectsof my invention are, -first,'to supplya blank that is reversible as to the sides to be presented to the die or matrix,- second, to form a blank so that the impressing of the die will form the letter in relief, and, finally, to provide means whereby the letters or characters so formed will be absolutely perfect.
My invention consistsin the peculiar construction of the blank whereby the above obects are attained, all of which will hereinaf ter fully appear and be particularly pointed out in the claim. In forming the. blank, which is preferably circular in form and composed of'duetile metal, preferably aluminium, I'provide the same with either a finished, fancy, or plain e ge. 1
Inthe accompanying drawings, in which like letters of referenceindicate like parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a.
plan view of the blank. section thereof, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of a modified form in which a bead is provided on both sides of the blank.
In carrying out my invention I form the blank A with a bead B. This is a very imas it is this portion that is operated uponby the machinery. (In my application for patent, filed June 14, 1902, Serial No. 111,708, I show a machine Fig.2 is a transverse for which this blank is adapted.) It is essential that this bead which projects out from Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed September 9,1904. Serial No. 223,905-
tionis to obviate any of the letters or characters being stamped' TERRITORY.
' BLANK.
' Patented March 20, 1 906.
the face of the blank should be uniform in width, annular in plan, and concentric to. the edge of the blank. By having the bead project as specified enough material is provided for forming the characters in relief when operated uponbythe machine. I
While a blank provided with a single'bead, as shown in Fig. 2, is practical in construc tion and capable of carrying out the functions assigned to it, yet I have found that in making the blanks it is preferable to form the blanks A with beads B on both faces, as in Fig. 3, and in identically the same relation 'to the blank. The object of this is to prevent mistakes in feeding. the disks to the hopper orfeeder and to always present the blank 'sothat it will be operated upon rightly re gardless of the face presented.
The beads in both forms of my improved blank, as illustrated, are formed with concave outer faces. The object of this construcflaw in the formation that is, the extra material will flow-during the stamping operation and fill in any cavities, and thereby produce perfect stampings.
The head in each form .of my improvement is of a width equal to the width of the letters formed therefrom, so that during the stamping process the letters extend from one edge of the rib to the other edge thereof.
, Having thus fully described my inventlon,
I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters Patent A circular blank formed with a circular bead having a concave outer face.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.

JOHN E. HEENE, FRANK SAUER.
