To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. Annnonon- Bin, a citizen of the United States, residin at Bridgeport, in the count of Fairfield an State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useiul Improvement in Bobbin-Cases for Sewin Maohines, of which the following is a full, c ear, and exact descri tion.

The object of this invention is to provide a bobbirnoase with means ior readily applying it to and removing it from its holder, such as the loop-taker or hook of a sewing-machine and for locking the case in the said holder,

' loop-taker, or hook for use in sewing.

The invention consists, essentially, of a bobbin-case having a central hub, so that it may be applied to a pin fixed in the holder, loop-taker, or hook and on which pin the bobbin is placed, said case having applied to it a pivoted bail, one end of which cooperates with a circumferential groove in the pin, the case being recessed to receive the bail and a portion of the recess having an overhan ing flange, serving as a cam to draw the 100%- ing end of the bail out of enga ement with the groove in the pin when the ail is lifted to disconnect the bobbin-case from the looptaker or hook, all as I will proceed now more particularly to set forth and finally claim.

In the accompanyin drawings, illustrating the invention, in the several figures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is a plan view of the bobbin-case. Fig. 2 is a plan view with the top partly broken away and showin the bobbin-case applied to a rotary loop-ta or or hook. Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the wire-bail lifted or in the unlocked position. Fig. 4'is a crosssection of the rotary hook and bobbin-case with the parts in locked osition, and Fi 5 is a similar section with t e parts in unloc ed position.

The rotary loop-taker or hook I may be of any approved construction and has rising substantially from its center a pin 2, provided with a circumferential groove 3. This pin 2 receives the usual bobbin or spool 4.

5 is the bobbin case of usual construction, excepting as I will now proceed to describe. The to of this case is recessed at 6, and the ends 0 the recess are grooved at 7 and 8. The groove 8 forms an overhanging flange 9. The ail 10, preferably of spring-wire, has a short end 1 ivoted in a transverse hole 12 in the to of he case and also has a long end 13, whic extends throu h a hole 14 in the top of the case, which ho e 14 opens into the hub 15 of the case. By means of this hub the case is mounted upon the pin 2, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 4, when the bail is down flat upon the top of the bobbin-case and within its recess 6, the lon end 13, herein referred to as the looking end, projects into the circumferential groove 3 and locks the bobbin-case to the pin. The ends of the said bail-spring into the grooves 7 and 8, and thereby and by means of the overhanging flange 9 the bail is held in this locked position. When it is desired to unlock the bobbin-case and remove it from the rotary loop-taker or hook, the bail is lifted, as in Figs. 3 and 5, and in elevatin it the overhanging flan e 9 serves as a sort 0 cam over which the bai must ride and be spread out, so as to withdraw its locking end 13 from the groove 3 in the pin 2.

Obviously the bail in its elevated position, Figs. 3 and 5, serves as a convenient means for uttin on and lifting oil and otherwise handling t e bobbin-case.

The invention obviousl is not limited to a rotary hook or loop-ta or as the receptacle for the bobbin-case, since the invention is applicable to other forms of holders for the bobbins, wherein a circumferentially-grooved pin is employed as the bobbin and bobbincase support.

What I claim is- 1. A bobbin-case having a hub adapted to engage a circumferentially-grooved pin, having a spring-bail pivoted to it, one of the pivot ends or the said bail extending through the bobbin-case into its hub and adapted to en age with the groove in the pin to lock the ho bin-case on said pin.

2. A bobbin-case, having a hub, and a recess in its top terminating in grooves, the said case provided with transverse holes to receive the ends of the bail, and one of said holes extending from center to circumference, and a spring-bail provided with ivot ends, one of which extends through the onger hole into the hub.

3. A bobbin-case, having a hub, and a recess in its top terminating in grooves, the said ease provided with transverse holes to receive the ends of the bail, and one of said holes extending from center to circumference, and a spring-bail provided with pivot ends, one of which extends through the longer hole into the hub, the metal of the case forming a flange overhanging the groove next to the nger end of the bail.

4. A bobbin-case, having a hub, and a recess in its top terminating in grooves, the said case provided with transverse holes to receive the ends of the bail, and one of said holes extending from center to circumference, and a spring-bail provided with pivot the locking end of t e bail when the bail is elevated.
