UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 6, 1906.
Application filed pril 17, 1905. Serial No. 256,046-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEREMIAH MAHONEY, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, county of Hamilton,
State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soles and Sole- Placers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is a sole to be placed upon the bottom of a persons foot inside of the stocking and a device for placing the sole, without wrinkles, in position.
I have found that a sole-chamois placed upon the bottom of a foot within the stocking affords a great relief to those who are troubled with excessive perspiration of the foot, keeping the stocking dry, and preventing the foot from becoming cold from this cause. This object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a soleplacer embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the chamois sole inverted. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing a human foot with a stocking partially "drawn thereon and the sole-placer with the chamois sole thereon in posltion against the bottom of the foot. Fig. 4 is a similar view of a modified form of the sole.
Referring to the parts, the sole-placer A is made of polished metal, preferably of aluminium, in the shape of the contour of a human foot. It has at the toe a lug a, which may be formed of a separate piece of metal riveted tothe sole-placer or may be struck up therefrom. Upon the sides of the heel portion a spring-arms c a are secured to the sole-placer or may be formed integral therewith. At the end of the heel a handle a is secured. The sole-placer A may have two lugs a a secured to it, or the lugs may be formed integral with the sole-placer. The chamois sole B is made in the form of the contour of a human foot and has near its toe portion 6 a loop I) for engaging the lug a of the sole-placer A.
The modified form of sole B has the toe portion cut off to reach only under the ball of the foot and has loops 6 b to engage lugs c 117.
In use the chamois sole B or the sole B is placed upon the upper side of the sole-placer with the loop I) engaging the lug a or the loops 6 b engaging the lugs a a After the stocking C has been drawn over the foot as far back as the heel the sole-placer, with the chamois lying upon it, is pushed in between the stocking and the sole of the foot, the clips a a engaging the heel of the foot and holding the placer in positison, leaving the persons hands free to pull the stocking smoothly over the foot. Then the sole-placeris drawn backward out of the stocking. The sole of the foot bearing against the chamois and having a greater friction against the chamois than the smooth surface of the sole-placer, the chamois is retained smoothly in place against the bottom of the foot free from wrinkles. The stocking may then be drawn over the heel. I have found likewise that the placer forms a good retainer for drying the chamois soles smoothly after it has been washed. The chamois being laid upon the sole-placer smoothly in its dampened' condition after being washed, the soleplacer will cause it to dry fiat and free from wrinkles.
What I claim is 1. A metal sole-placer having lugs formed thereon projecting toward the toe, in combination with a flexible sole to be placed upon the sole-placer and having means for engaging the lugs whereby the sole may be placed against the bottom of the foot of a person and left smoothly between the stocking and the foot upon the withdrawal of the placer.
2. A metal sole-placer having forwardlyprojecting lugs near its toe and clips near its heel for engaging the heel of a person, in combination with a fieXi-ble sole having loops near its toe for engaging the lugs.
3. A sole-placer of polished metal having forwardly-proj ecting lugs near its toe in combination with a chamois sole having loops near its toe for engaging the lugs upon the sole-placer.
JEREMIAH MAHONEY.
