Specification of Letters atent,

checks and closers in which a spring-actuated `lever is disposed to partially intercept' the door in swinging vto itsclosed position and subsequently force the door to complete its movement to said position.
The object of the invention is to rovide a door. check and closer which shall e simple in construction and efficient in its operation without requiring extra devices to be attached to the. door; and to that end the invention consists-in the improved construction and 'cembination'iof the component parts of the door 'check and closer hereinafter described, and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in
'Figure 1 is alfront view-vof my 'improved *door checkand closer in position for retainl. ing the door closed. Fig. 2 is a side. view of spending parts.
the same. Fig.v 3 is a top plan view of the same.` Fig. .4 is a plan vl'ew" showing the door-check inv osition to intercept the' clos-v ing door, and ig, 5 is a plan view showing the door-check. moved part way' to release `the door and to throw the spring-actuated lever into position to force the door to its complete closed position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- In the saiddrawings, A represents the door, care presents the supporting-plate of the door c eck and closer, which late is rigidly attached to 'the casingiB adjacent tothe jamb.
. b denotes'a arm which projects from theface of the plate a. and has its free end terminated in avertical deflection b.
c and d are two levers formed from one piece of stout Wire, which is coiled at around a spool e, mounted loosely on the en ortion b` of the arm b, which constitutes the crum of said levers.A The two leve-rs c and d extend part way in opposite directions from the spool e and thence in directions to allow the free ends ofboth levers to swing in arcs crossing the arc described by the edge ,of the door in moving to and from its closed position. Said ends of the levers are preferably rovided with rubberor other suitable cushions h for engaging opposite sides of the door. door-closing lever, and d the check-lever, which is shorter than the said closing-lever. The lever c is caused to press the door to its closed position by force of a tractive spiral spring g, which is connected at one end to the supporting-plate a and at the opposite end to a'loop "L, formed in the lever c. y
The two levers c and d and the spring g are disposed insuch positions in relation tol each other that,` at the beginning of opening the door,it pushes the closm -lever vc to a position which throws the attacing-loop fief the lever yc to the opposite side of the arm b, and then the said spring draws the lever c away from thedoor, as shown in Fig. 4' of the draw'- ings, and at the same time throws the checklever d into a of one side of t e door inmoving to its closed c constitutes thel position to receive the impactV position, and thus check the sald movement Fig. 5 of the drawings and finally out ofthe way and causes the c osing-lever c 'to swingl onto the op osit'e sideof the door and force it to its comp ete closed osition, as shown in Fi s. 1, 2, and 3 of the rawings. l
t will be observed that my described door check and closer is capable of effectually and reliably'performing-its functions without requiring any extra appliances to be attached to the door, vwhich appliances increase the cost of the door check and closer and are liable to be broken or disarranged or become otherwise ino erative, and thus destroy the utility of the oor check and closer.
