WILLIAM H. GRASSER, OF LELAND, IDAHO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO AUGUSTA GRASSER AND ONE-THIRD TO JASPER P. GRASSER,
OF OROFINO, IDAHO.
FLY-TRAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1906.
To all ugh/077a it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. GRASSER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leland, in the county of Nez Perce, State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fly-T raps and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to traps, and more particularly to fly-catchers, and has for its object to provide a device of this nature which will be arranged for attachment to a window in such a way that flies seeking egress through the window will enter the trap.
A further object is to provide a trap which will include means for attaching a windowcurtain thereto.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, and it will be understood that modifications of the specific construction shown may be made and any suitable materials may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is an elevation of a window provided with the present invention and showing a curtain engaged with the latter. Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section of the catcher proper, taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a view showing the catchers detached from a window.
Referring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a hollow body portion 5, including ends 6 and 7, a bottom 8, and a top 9. The body portion has a foraminous rearward wall 10, which is preferably formed of a piece of wire-screen, and the forward wall 11 of the body portion is provided with a central horizontal slot 12, which terminates short of the ends of the body portion, the portions of the wall 11 which surround the slot slanting inwardly to the latter from their edge portions so as to form a chute 13, which is directed into the body portion.
The wall 11 is formed of translucent material, preferably oil-paper of suflicient stiffness to retain its form, and secured to the ends 6 and 7, adjacent to the upper rearward corners thereof, there are laterally-extending attaching devices 14, having downwardly-directed notches 15 therein for engagement with pins 16 engaged in a window-frame to hold the device thereto.
The ends 6 and 7 of the body portion extend downwardly below the bottom 9, as shown at 6 and 7, and have roller-receiving devices 17 upon their inner faces which cooperate to support a shade-roller 18, which carries a shade 19.
When the present invention is in position upon a window, the wall 11 is directed inwardly, and the light from the window may be seen through the walls of the chute 13. By reason of the fact that the curtain 19 is located below the chute and is more or less opaque the light area of the chute may be clearly seen by insects within the room, which fly toward this chute in seeking egress. In-
sects passing through the chute enter the body portion 5 and are unable to pass out through the chute, as will be readily understood.
What is claimed is v 1. The combination with a window of a flytrap removably secured thereto in position to cover a portion of the window said trap comprising a bodyportionhaving closed ends, a foraminous rear Wall, an inwardly-directed tapered chute in its wall which lies away from the window said chute having translucent walls, and a window shade secured to the body portion and extending therebelow said shade being arranged to cover a portion of the window to which the trap is attached.
2. A device of the class described comprising a hollow body portion including ends having downwardly-extending portions, said body portion having a foraminous rear wall arranged for the passage of light into the body portion, an inwardly-directed chute carried by the body portion at its forward side, said chute having translucent walls and having an ingress-passage formed therein, attaching de vices carried by the ends of the body portion for supporting the same, and shade-supporting devices secured to the inner surfaces of the downwardly-extending portions of the ends.
In testimony whereof I afIiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I/VILLIAM H. GRASSER.
