TOO
suoli Ishell being formed in two sections held in place by Suitable screws 2G. When greater power is desired, this shell is removed.
'lo enable ine to take up any slack in the able and without the necessity of operating the mveep-biir, l employ a crank 27, which is inserted axially ol `shaft H, .so that when the sweep Casting 1S is diaengiiged troni the drum-shalt the latter may be turned to efleet, the Windingr of the cable on the druni.
The advantages of my invention.are apparentA It will be seen that I have provided extremely simple and inex )ensive means for controlling the Winding an unwinding ol the cable of a stump-ex tractor, that 'by means of the removable shell the speed of the device may be adjusted, and that by means of the lever 23 the sweep-bar casting may be readily thrown out 0f engagement with the drumshaft, and also that the pawl or catch may be held out of engagement; with the ratchet by the saine spring by which it is held in engagement.
l elaiin as my invention- The herein-described winding device Comprising a drum for a cable having a spiral froove formed thereon, a sectional shell also having a spiral groove and designed to fit oii and inelose said drum for regu ating the diameter thereof, said shell being fori'ned to tit in the grooves of the drum, means for hold ing lauch Shell to the drum, and in'eans for actuating the latter.
2. rThe herein described windin(r device comprising a frame, a drinn mountedD therein having a ratchet-wheel at one end, a pawl or catch inountetl on said traine for enga ing said ratehet-wheel a plate-spring atlixei to the frame and designed to engage sind pawl at either of two points7 according as theV pafwl is in or out of engagement. with said ratchetwlieel, and means for actuating the druni.
3i 'l`he herein described winding device rfoinprisingr a frame, a di'uiii mounted therein having a ratchet-wheel at one end, a pawl or catch mounted on said frame for engaging said ratchet-wheel and having anoverhfinging flange, a plate-spring engaging said pawl for holding it in engagement with said ratchet-wheel, said ilate-spring being capable of engaging said flange for holding the pawl out of engagement with said ratchetwhcel, and means for actuating the drum.
4. rlhe combination with thefraine having to i and bottoni members, ol' the drinn rotatalily mounted between said members, means mounted on the lop member toi' preii'i-nling accidental unwindingol' the drinn, the sweepbar casting located abovisind nieinbi-r, ma pablo of being moved vertically, mean` l'oinormally interlocking Huid casting with the drinn when the former if; in ilA loweiiiiost position, und ineiina` mounted on wiid t-:mting and engaging -said top nienibi'r toi disengagingr sind casting from the drinn.
5. fthe roinbinetion with the trniim otI the drinn rotatzibliV mounted therein, means for preventing thi` at'iidentiil iinwindingr of the drum, the shaft with which sind ,drum rotates, the lmveepdiiir resting, mean` tor nor-- inaltv interloeking and rusting to said slndt, and a lever for dieengaging the swoop-bar casting l'roin the tliat't.
6, The Combination with the traine, ol the shaft mounted tht-rein having a rounded portion fitting in an opening of the traine und also having a squared portion, the drinn having et one end a squared rlinnibcr to iii-.conimodate .said `squared portion7 moana` for preventing the accidental unwinding ol` the druin, the Iswee i-bar Casting mounted above said traine ani designed to interlock with .siaid shaft, and ineannv for distiigaging `mid casting from tht` hatt i'. [he combination with the traine` of the shalt mounted therein having a rounded porvtion fitting in an opening' oi the traine and alsohaving it Awin-tired portion, the drinn hilving at one end ii squared chamber to zirconi- Inodate rwid squared portion, merlin, for preventing the accidentel unwiiiding ot the drum, the sweep-bar rusting mounted above said traine :ind de igned to interlock willi said shaft, and a lever mounted on laid rusting having eziin-like or rounded portionir for inaging said traine for disengiigiiig thiI ranting rom sind Shaft.
8. 'lhe combination with the traine, and
'the shaft, ol' the drinn movable with Huid shaft, the sweep-bar casting, in -ziiia tor interlocking the lutti-r with siiid shalt, means toi' disengnging such meeting, and ii tiiiink lor turning lsaid shaft. und drinn indepcndenll)r of the casting.
Iii testin'ionyv whereof' l have igned thiy Specification in the presence ol two subscribing witnesses.
