PATENTED FEB. 6, 1906 E. B. QUICK. NECK YOKE CENTER.
APPLICATION FILED NARA-1905.

EMMETT B. QUICK, OF OOMSTOOK, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ALFRED. A. NEWELL, OF OOMSTOOK, TEXAS.
NECK-YOKE CENTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1906.
Appligation filed March 3, 1905. Serial N0. 248,808,
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMMETT B. QUIoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Comstock, in the county of Valverde and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in N eck-Yoke Centers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to neck-yoke centers.
The objects of the invention are to improve, simplify, and strengthen the construction of such devices.
With the foregoing and other minor objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in a neck-yoke center comprising a tubular member adapted to fit the vehicle-tongue and having an inclined collar thereon, a protecting piece, preferably formed of leather, surrounding the tubular member and resting against the inclined collar, an irregular Washer having a thickened and beveled upper portion, said. washer surrounding the tubular memher and resting against the protecting-piece, and a removable collar surrounding the tubular member and holding the irregular washer in position.
The invention also resides in the particular combination and arrangement of parts and in the precise details of construction hereinafter described and claimed as a practical embodiment thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a vehicle tongue, showing the improved neck-yoke center applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front view of the improved device. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section thereof.
Like reference-numerals indicate corresponding parts in the different views.
The reference-numeral 1 indicates a vehiole-tongue of usual form and construction. Fitted upon the tongue 1 is the tubular member 2 of the improved neck-yoke center. The
tubular member 2 is provided with an in clined collar 3, against which rests a leather protecting-piece 4, which is squared at its upper end, as shown in Fig. 3. The protecting-piece 4 surrounds the tubular member 2 and is prevented from rotating accidentally thereon by means of a pin or projection 5, said pin or projection being connected. with the inclined collar 3 and being pointed, so as.
to bite into said protecting-piece. Surroundmg the tubular mcmber2 and bearing against the protecting-piece 4 is an irregular washer 6, which is thickened at its upper end and is beveled, as shown at 7. A removable collar 8 is held upon the tubular member 2, preferably by means of screw-threads 9, said movable collar 8 resting against the thickened washer 6 and holding said washer securely against the protecting-piece 4. The removable washer 8 is held against accidental displacement from the tubular member 2 by any suitable lock-nut means, such as a screw 10, Which extends into a suitable bore between the threads of the removable collar 8 and the threads of the tubular member 2. The removable collar 8 preferably is square and is beveled, as shown at 11, thus forming a continuation of the beveled portion of the thickened Washer 6.
If desired, the tubular member 2 at its rear end may be extended beyond the inclined collar 3, as shown at 12, in order that said tubular member may secure a stronger or more lengthened grip upon the vehicletongue, thus strengthening the entire device.
In using the improved neck-yoke center it Will be understood by those familiar With the art to which the invention relates that the tab of the neck-yoke is fitted over the end of the vehicle-tongue and that said tab and neck-yoke rest against the protecting-piece 4.
Minor changes in the precise embodiment of invention illustrated and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims Without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantagcs.
Having thus fully described the .invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A neck-yoke center comprising a tubu-- lar member, an inclined collar thereon, a protecting-piece surrounding the tubular member and resting against the collar, a washer varying in thickness and surrounding the tubular member, said washer abutting against the protecting-piece, and a collar inovably engaging the tubular member and bearing against the Washer.
2. A neck-yoke center comprising a tubular member having an inclined collar thereon, the rear end. of the tubular member extending beyond the inclined collar, a pointed projection upon the inclined collar, a protectingpiece having a squared upper end, said protecting-piecc surrounding the tubular memher and resting against the inclined collar lar and the tubular member for looking said 16 and pointed projection, an irregular washer collar in position.
