To cull whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LANSING ONDERDONK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, Manhattan borough, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invcnt ed certain new and useful Improvements in Seams for Sewed Articles, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

My invention relates to improvements in seams for sewed articles, adapted to be used for overseaming the edges of fabrics or for uniting two pieces of fabric and binding and covering the cut edges thereof.

The invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claims.

While I have illustrated the invention as embodied in a combination of two pieces of fabric whose edges are super osed and then united, it will be understood t at the threads may be applied to one or any number of fab nos.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the threads of a seam embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the same.

In the drawings, A represents two pieces of fabric whose edges are superposed. Two upper threads have formed in them loops which are passed down through the fabrics at points one behind the other, and on the lower surface of the fabrics the loops lie dia onally, as shown, and have passed through them a third thread 6, which lies on the under surface of the fabric in the straight lines between each two pairs of loops and dia onally, as at d, beneath the fabric, extending out to the edge thereof, a fourth thread 6 being assed through the loops d at the edge of the fabrics and lyi g alon the up or surface of the fabric and surround ing the lbops a and extending beneath the thread a between its loops, making the stitch shown in Fig. 1 upon the upper surface of the fabric.

It will be understood that I do not wish to be limited to the particular loops of upper thread which the fourth thread e engages, as it may engaage the other sets of loops instead of those s own in the drawin s. Furthermore, I do not wish to be limits to the exact arrangement in which the upper threads are passed through the fabric or are concate nated on the under surface thereof so long as the third thread passes through eachpair of loops and the fourth thread passes through the loops of the third thread and is concatenated on the upper surface with the needlethreads.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. The combination with a body fabric, of the upper threads, each having loops passed down through the fabric, a third t read engaging each pair of said loops, and lying upon the under face of the fabric and a fourth thread engaging the loops of said third thread and lying upon the upper surface of the fabric and concatenated with the 11 per threads, upon the upper surface of the fa ric, substantially as described.

2. The combination with a body fabric, of

the upper threads, having loops passed down' therethrough, a third thread, passing through two consecutive loops of the respective threads on the under surface of the fabric and lying upon the under surface of the fabric and a fourth thread passing through the loops of said third thread and extending upon the u per surface of the fabric and sur rounding the loops of one thread and being covered by the threads between the 100 s of the other thread, substantially as described.

3. The combination with a body fabric, of the upper threads having loops passed down therethrough, a third thread, passing through two consecutive loops of the respective threads on the under surface of the fabric and lying upon the under surface of the fabric and a fourth thread passing through the loops of said third thread and extending upon the 11 per surface of the fabric and surrounding tlie loo s of one thread and. bein covered by the t reads between the loops 0% the other thread, said fourth thread between the points of its assagethrougli the loops, of the third thread l ing along t e edge of the fabric, substantial y as described.
