Description

PATENTED JAN. 30, 1906.
H. T. HALLUWBLL.
PULLEY.
APPLICATION FILED 00113, 1902.
1 human HOWARD T. HALLOVVELL, OF DAVISGROVE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO STANDARD PRESSED STEEL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF PENN- SYLVANIA.
PULLIEY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 30, 1906.
Application filed October 13, 1902. Serial No. 126,970.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, I'IOWARD T. HALL0- WELL, a citizen. of the United States, residing at Davisgrove, in the county of Montgomery, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pulleys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pulleys; and it consists of a novel construction hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a pulley embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of a portion of the pulley on line a: as, Fig. 1, showing the edges of the rim curved. Fig. 3 represents :a side elevation of a hub with the integral lugs. Fig. 4 represents a side elevation of a form of yoke employed, a portion of the web-section being shown broken. Fig. 5 represents a plan view of clips employed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a split pulley, consisting of the sections B and O, and as the formation of each of the sections is similar a description of one of these will suffice.
D designates the web-sections, which are bent to form the rim or bearing-su1face E, said webs being secured together adjacent the rim by the rivet F and being su ported at their inner ends with a washer therebetween.
H designates a hub formed in sections, which are bent up and secured by rivets J to the web-sections D, whereby it will be understood that the bent-up portions K form a strengthening or stiffening means for the web-section.
L designates a yoke which is secured to the hub H by the bolts M, said yoke L having lugs N thereon, through which pass the bolts P, which are secured at their opposite ends to a similar yoke which is on the other section O of the pulley, whereby it will be understood that the sections B and O are secured together.
Q designates a suitable bushing, which is provided with the extension R, which extends between the web-sections D for holding the said. block in proper position.
The edges of the rim E are curved, as at S, if desired.
In Fig. 8 I have shown a construction in which I strike up from the hub H the lugs V, through which the bolts W pass, for securing the sections B and O together.
In some cases where a large pulley is employed I may find it necessary to use additional locking means, in which case I form cars A on each section adjacent the rim and pass a bolt B therethrough. I may also, if desired, secure to the rim-section E clips O, which have the oppositely-extending fingers D entering suitable recesses or depressions E in the opposite clip, whereby it will be seen that the same prevent improper movement of the parts and act to keep the parts in alinement.
In the above-described manner it will be evident that I may employ to construct a split pulley of a strong and durable nature, the sections of the pulley being securely locked together and held against displacement.
It will be evident that various changes may be made by those skilled in the art which will come within the scope of my invention, and I do not, therefore, desire to be limited. in every instance to the exact construction herein shown and described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A pulley comprising two sections, each section consisting of a rim, a web integral with said rim, a hub having portions embracing and secured to said. web, and means independent of the web and coacting with said hub for securing the sections of the pulley together.
2. A pulley formed in sections, web-sections and rim formed integral, a hub having portions embracing and secured to the websections, yokes adapted to pass around the hub-sections, and means independent of the web securing the yokes together outside said hub-sections, whereby the sections of the pulley are secured together with respect to each other.
3. A pulley comprising two sections, each section consisting of a rim, a web integral with said rim, a hub secured to said web and having portions embracing the same, yokes passing around said hub-sections and bolts traversing the joint between the sections and r1111. 7 5. A pulley formed of two sections, each independent of the hub at each side of the yokes for locking the same together.
4. A pulley formed of two sections, each consisting of a rim, a web formed integral with said rim, and hub-sections embracing and secured to said web, means for locking said sections together at the hub and means independent of the web for keeping said sections in alinement at a point adjacent said consisting of a rim, a web formed integral with said rim, and hub-sections embracing and secured to said web, of means for uniting said sections together adjacent the rim, means between said uniting means and the rim for keeping the sections in alinement and means for locking the sections together, said lastmentioned means being independent of the web and secured to the hub-sections.
6. A pulley formed of two sections, each consisting of a rim, a web formed integral therewith, a hub having portions embracing and attached to said web, and lugs integral with said hub and through the medium of which the sections are secured together and interlocking means at the rim at the joint between said sections.
7. A pulley formed of sections, each section consisting of a rim, web portions formed integral therewith, a hub having portions embracing and secured to said web, and interlockin clips mounted on said rim for keeping the sections in alinement.
8. A pulley formed of sections, each section consisting of a rim, web-sections formed integral therewith, a washer situated between said websections, a hub having lugs secured to the web, a bushing having an extension fitted between the web-sections and means for securing said hub-lugs, web-sections and washer together.
9. A pulley formed in sections each section comprising a rim, a web-section integral therewith, a hub having a flange bearing against the web-section, lugs on the web-section and securing means for the sections of the pulley passing through said lugs.
10. A pulley formed in sections each section comprising a rim having rounded edges, a web-section integral therewith, a hub having a flange parallel with the web-section adjacent the hub, means embracing said hub and independent of the web section and means for securing the parts together adja cent the hub.
11. A pulley comprising two sections, each section consisting of a rim, a web integral with said rim, a hub having flanges en1brac ing and secured to said web and forming a stiffening and strengthening means therefor and bolt-lugs independent of the web and carried by said hub for clamping the sections of the pulley together.
