Description

No. 811,091. PATBNTED .T AN. 30, 1906. 0. L. ROBBINS. GRAIN GAR DOOR.
APPLICATION FILED APR.2. 1904.

GRAIN-CAR DOOR..
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 30, 1906.
Application filed April 2, 1904. Serial No. 201,201.
To a/ZZ wh/07% it r11/ay concern/ Be it known that I, ConDrLLnnAs L. Ron- BINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pekin, in the countyof Tazewell and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Grain-Car Doors, of which the 'following is a specification.
This invention relates particularly to a cardoor suitable for grain-cars, and is characterized particularly by a lower sliding door and an. upper hinged door.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an outside elevation of the side of the car containing the door. Fig. 2 is an inside elevation thereof.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates the side of the car, and 7 the door-sill.
8 is the casing on the inside oi the car, and the main door slides to open between this casing or housing and the side oi the car.
The main or sliding door is indicated at 9, and it travels upon a strip 10, laid upon the doorsill. This strip extends along the sill and. back into the casing. Rollers 11 are let into the lower edge oi the door and travel upon the track.
To enable the car to be loaded higher than would be permitted by the sliding gate 9, a hinged gate comprising two Asections 17 and 1S is used. These sections are hinged. together, as at 19, and are hinged to the casing 8, as at 20. The hinges 20 are rising hinges, so that as the door is opened it lifts and as it is closed it lowers upon and to contact with the top edge of the door 9, thereby producing a grain-tight joint. The free end oi the section 17 of the door has a lug 18, which enters a socket in the door-post when the door is closed. Vhen the door is opened, it is buckled on the hinges 19 to withdraw the lug from the socket and is then swung open on the hinges 20.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination in a grain-car door, of a lower sliding door, and an upper door formed of sections hinged together, said upper door being hinged to the door post by rising hinges and adapted to drop when closed upon the upper edge of the sliding door.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speciiication `in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CORDILLERAS L. ROBBINS.
