Description

PATENTED JAN. 23, 1906. G. E. STOKOE. MOLD FOR MAKING CONCRETE FENCE POSTS.
APPLIOATION FILED MALZI, 1905.
Qbtoamm CARL E. STOKOE, OF GRAND HAVEN, MICHIGAN.
- MOLD FOR MAKING CONCRETE FENCE-POSTS- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1906 Application filed March 21, 1905. Serial No. 251,341.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL E. SToKoE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand 15 ient device that may be adjusted for various lengths of posts and to provide the same with means for inserting the fasteners in the post through the side of the mold, whereby the upper surface of the post may be readily smoothed down and finished with any suitable tool.
Heretofore it has been customary to insert the fasteners in the open or exposed side of the mold after the same has been filled with concrete, which is inconvenient for that the fasteners projecting upward from the surface of the concrete at the open side of the mold interfere with the smoothing down of the same with the tool.
My invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 1s a side elevation of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of the same; Fig. 3, a plan of the finished post made by means of my device; Fig. 4, an end elevation of the mold, and Fig. 5 a transverse section of the same on the line 5 5 of Figs. 1 and 2.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.
1 represents any suitable plank or plate on which the post is deposited when molded.
2 represents the sides of the mold, each of which is provided at each corner with handles 3, by means of which the mold is readily manipulated. In each end of these sides is a recess 4, in which is laterally inserted a binding rod or bolt 5 to hold the sides firmly against the transverse end pieces 8 and 12. These bolts are provided with thumb-nuts 6, whereby they may be properly secured in place. At suitable intervals in the sides 2 are openings 7, through which any fastenings for the wires of a fence may be inserted in the concrete forming the post, as shown at 14.
At the small end of the mold a detached transverse wall 12 is provided, which is supported by cleats 13, secured to the sides 2. At the large end of the mold is a transverse wall 8, also detached from the other parts and supported in position by the heads of removable bolts 9, inserted in suitable openings 10 in the sides 2. These openings 10 are provided at intervals, whereby the bolts may be shifted and the wall 8 adjusted for various lengths of posts. To chamfer the corners of the posts, the sides 2 and the wall 12 are provided with strips 11, triangular in cross-section and properly located thereon.
From the foregoing description the operation of my device will be readily understood without further explanation.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A mold for concrete fence-posts, comprising sides having a series of openings to receive fasteners, and a series of openings to receive stops, said sides also having recesses in their ends, bolts in the end recesses, and adjustable stops in the second-named series of openings.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARL E. STOKOE.
