PULP AND PAPER MACHINERY.
APPLICATION FILED APR, 11 3 UNITED STAEES a rnn r orrron.
I HOWARD PARKER, OF NASI-IUA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR TO IM- PROVED PAPER MACHINERY COMPANY, OF NASHUA, NEW HAMP- SHIRE, A CORPORATION OF MAINE.
PU LP AND PAPER MACHINERY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 26, 1905.
Application filed April 17, 1905. Serial No. 255,905.
T 0 all 1071,0711, it nuty concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD PARKER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Nashua, in the county of Hillsboro and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulp and Paper Machinery, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates in general to the art of handling and forming webs of pulp, and
bodiment of my invention the felts after leaving their respective couch-rolls are passed over a suction apparatus 0, the two webs of pulp being laid together between the felts. Above t is suc ion apparatus there is a presser-roll exerting pressure on the two webs of pulp over the suction apparatus to firmly unite them. After passing between the roll and the suction apparatus one felt is carried back and aroundover its cylindermold, while the other one, carrying the two united webs of pulp, passes on through any suitable mechanism, such as the drying and pressing rolls, (indicated at g,) at which point the pulp is further operated upon and stripped from the felt, this second felt passing back over its cylinder-mold, It is to be understood that these felts are endless and that wh n o c th op rati n of t e ma h ne is begun it proceeds, delivering a continuous W b of h la,
' I am aware that it is old to unite two sheets of pulp taken from separate felts. In some of these machines when the web of pulp from one. felt is delivered onto the other felt the eoreb ee beet o pulp s pa ir t y tween presser-rolls; but the pulp is of such a consistency that when any great amount of pressure is used it crushes and, packs up behind the rolls or else breaks the web of pulp, but in any case will not permit the double webs, representing the full capacity of both cylinder-molds, to pass through these rolls and there be firmly united or sufiiciently dried. In a machine built in accordance with my invention I exert a pressure on the double web directly over the suction apparatus, and by the cooperation of these parts I am enabled to exert an extreme pressure on the web of pulp at this point without in the slightest degree crushing it. In consequence I am able to most firmly unite the two Webs together and to so thoroughly dry them that when they come to the presser-rolls, where they'are subjected to enormous pressure, the pulp is of such a consistency as to pass through these rolls without crushing and delivering the maximum capacity of the two cylinder-,molds.
I claim as my invention- In a machine of the class specified the independent cylinder-molds each provided with its own couch-roll, a suction apparatus, and endless felts adapted to take off the pulp from said cylinder-molds, said webs of pulp being laid one upon the other and passed over said suction apparatus, means for exerting pressure on said united webs of pulp directly over the suction apparatus, and presser-rolls acting on said pulp after it has passed through said suction apparatus, substantially as described.
2. A machine of the class specified comprising a series of independent cylinder-molds each provided with its own couch-roll and endless felt, for taking off a web of pulp from each cylinder-mold, means for forming said individual webs of pulpinto a single composite web, a suction apparatus over which said composite web of pulp passes, a presser-roll located above and cooperating with said suction apparatus to firmly unite the parts of said composite web and dry it, substantially as v described,
tion apparatus to firmly unite it, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HOWARD PARKER.
