Description

sra'rns ATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. MORSE, OF J ERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO CLARION CHEMICAL COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
DENTIFRICE.
- tact with the secretions of the mouth, said compound further possessing new and superior abrasive properties.
Accordin to my invention I combine with a powdered airasive substancesuch, .for instance, as chalkand with a saponaceous substance, such as powdered white castilesoap, a combination powder barium-hydrogen-ortho hosphate and barium dioxid in an exceeding y finely divided and refined condition.
The preferred roportion of the above ingredients is as fo ows: Of the combination powder barium h drogen orthophosphate and barium dioxi I .take about seventeen per cent., and this I combine with seventyve per cent. of recipitatedchalk and eight per cent. of cast' e-soa The said combination powder consists 0, about ninety per cent.
' of"barium-hydrogen-orthophosphate and ten per cent. of barium dioxid. To the final compound ma be added a suitable flavoring ma,-
terial ordmarily used in tooth-powders or found to be desirable and any of the other usual and suitable ingredients of tooth-powder.
The above proportions'may of course be varied as desired without departing from the spirit of my invention.
When the dentifrice containing the abovementioned ingredients is placed in the mouth, the acid secretions acting on the combination powder aforesaid roduce a certain amount of hydrogenperoxid, which its well-known Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 18, 1905. Serial No. 261,068.

action is extremelyefiicient in removing tartar and other organic matter fromthe teeth and preventing deposits thereof. At the same time the said combination powder, by reason of its nature and extremely finely divided and refined condition, acts as a most advantageous golishing and abrasive agent, exceeding in e ciency all polishing and abrasive agents heretofore used.
Altogether this dentifrice is a decided and vast improvement upon all forms of dentifrice now in use orknown, exhibiting all the valuable antiseptic and germicidal properties of H 0, without any caustic burning or other harmful effects and, furthermore, exhibiting such polishing and abrasive properties as have never heretoforebeen known, said properties at the same. time causing no injurious or harmful effects. The dentifrice may be prepared and marketed in powder, tablet, lozenge, or other forms, as may be desirable.
Haxving thus-described my invention, what I claim is-- 1. A dentifrice com rising the combination powder barium hy r0 en orthophosphate and barium dioxid, Wit a suitable abrasive material, substantially as described.
2. A dentifrice com rising the combination powder barium hy rogen orthophosphate and barium dioxid, a suitable abrasive material and a saponaceous material, substantially as described. a
3. A dentifrice comprising about seventeen per cent. of the combination powder ba rium-hydrogen-orthophosphate and barium dioxid, about sevent -five per cent. of precipitated chalk and eight per cent. of castilesubstantially as described.
soaipl,
testimony whe'reofl aifix my signature I I in presence of two witnesses.
