Be it known that we, JOHN RJDAVIDSON and BURTON O. KELLY, citizens of the United States, and residents of Monticello, in the county of Jasper and State of Georgia, have invented a new and ImprovedWagon-Hound, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in the construction ,of hounds for wagons.

Hounds constructed wholly of wood,- and because of the great scarcity of wood, are not only expensive when newly made, but there pairing of broken hounds is also somewhat costly.

It is the object of our invention to provide a hound in which the wood portion consists of straight strips, which are not easily broken, as there are no cross-grain curves, and if broken may be replaced at a comparatively small cost by either a wagon-maker or a person not skilled in the art.

We will describe a wagon-hound embodying our invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.

Reference is to'be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates divergent socket members consisting of metal, and in these socket members are wooden extension-pieces 2, secured, as here shown, by means of bolts 3, which pass through the socket members and also through said exten-' slon. the forward ends of plates 4, the rear ends thereof being secured to the Wooden-extensions 2. These plates 4 are arranged above the extensions 2, and underneath the same is a bed-bolster 5, and attached to the under side of the hound-sections is an axle 6.. Bolted to the rear ends of the extensions 2 is the crossed bar or slide-bar 7 The socket members 1 are preferably made in two sections, e'aclfsection' having inwardlyextended flanges 8 at the upper and lower sides, which form the upper and lower walls of a socket member ,to receive the tongue 9,

These bolts 3 further secure in place which is held in place by means of a bolt 10. The rear end of the tongue 9 engages in the loop portion 11 of a metal strap 12,- bolted to the hounds.

The castings or socket members are securely held in place by a top plate 18 and bottom straps 14, bolts 15 passing through said top plate 13, through the side portions of the for:

' ward extensions of the socket members, and

through said straps. While the hound shown in the drawings is designed to be used at the front portion of a wagon, it is obvious that the rear hounds may be substantially of the same form.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A wagon-hound comprising rearwardlyextending divergent socket members inseparate pieces, upper and lower flanges extended forward from said socket members, a plate on the upper side of said forward extension, straps in the lower side thereof, and fasteningbolts and Wood extensions secured in thesocket extended socket members, the said socket members being divergent and in separate pieces, upper and lower flanges extended forward from said socket members and forming the upper and lower walls of a socket mem= her for receiving a tongue, a plate on the upper sides of said forward extensions, straps on the lower side thereof, bolts passing through the plate, forward extensions and straps, and

socket members.
