To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, ADOLPI-I RICHTER, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Illuminating'Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to an illuminating device intended especially for use in connection with incandescent electric lights, but useful with other lights, if desired. a
The invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, involving a rotating light by means of which the rays are projected rapidly in all directions.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, illustrating-as an example one manner of practicallyemploying my invention, which drawing represents a sectional View showing the complete device. I
10 indicates a suitable support, and 11 a shaft which is rigidly sustained thereby. This shaft is preferably vertically disposed and has a flange 12 at its lower end, which supports ballbearings 14, in turn sustaining a sleeve 15, which is arranged to turn freely around the shaft 11, as shown. Attached to the sleeve 15 is a suitable lamp-carrier 16. This carrier may be of any desired construction and is arranged to turn with the sleeve 15. The carrier 16 sustains the lights 17, which are prefand on these rings 23 contact fingers or brushes 24 engage, so as to carry the current from the motor to the lights, the same current serving to drive the motor and to energize the lights. It will be seen, therefore, that as the current is turned into the device the parts 15 and 16 will rotate rapidly and the lights will be energized, so as to throw a continuous light around all sides of the device. The reflectors 18 should be opaque, so as to prevent the light shining back of the reflectors, and the rapidity with which the light-carrier is rotated will cause the light to appear uniform throughout the apartment in which the light is placed. Also by changing the position of the lights and their reflectors the rays may be directed not only horizontally from the device, but upward and downward therefrom,
so as toilluminate every part of the room in which the device may be placed.
Various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of my invention may be resorted to at will without departing from the Hence I consider myself entitled to all such variations as may lie within the terms of my claims.
Having thus described the preferred form of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a shaft adapted to be supported vertically, a polepiece fastened thereto intermediate its ends, motor-fields carried by the pole-piece at each side of the shaft, a sleeve mounted to turn freely on the shaft, av motor-armature attached to the sleeve, an electric lamp carried by the sleeve, and an electrical circuit .in which the lamp and motor are included. 1
2. The combination of a shaft adapted to be supported vertically, motor-fields supported on the shaft, a sleeve revolubly mounted on the shaft, a motor-armature attached to the sleeve, an electric lamp supported by the sleeve, and means for supplying an electric current to the lamp and motor. 7
3. The combination of a shaft adapted to be supported vertically, motor-fields secured to the shaft, a sleeve revoluble on the shaft, a motor-armature attached to the sleeve, an electric lamp supported on the sleeve, and an electrical circuit in which the lamp and motor are included.
