GAS-STOVE.
J No. 805,706.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1905.
Application filed July 31,1905. Serial No. 272,082.
- To all whom it may concern.-
thereof.
Be it known that I, HENRY J. BRESSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Kalamazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas-stoves. 'It relates particularly to gasstoves for heating purposes, although it may be used as a cooking-stove.
The objects of. this invention are, first, to provide an improved gas-stove which has a maximum heating capacity for the amount of gas consumed; second, to provide an improved gas-stove which is very simple and economical in structure embodying the above advantage.
Further objects and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined, and pointed out in the claims. 2 5
invention is fully illustrated in the accompa- A structure embodying the features of my nying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of my improved gasstove, taken on a line corresponding to line 1 1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Fig. 1, showing structural details. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Fig. 1, showing the means for supporting the :burner and base-plate and the arrangement Fig. 4 is a detail vertical sectional view taken on a line corresponding to line 4 4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 5 5 of Fig. 1, showing the structural details of the burner-tube.
1n the drawings the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section-lines, and similar letters of reference refer to similar parts through out the several views.
Referring to the drawings, A is the base, which is provided with suitable legs A, preferably formed integral therewith. The-base is B is preferably formed like a funnel, with latillustrated in Fig. 1.
provided with a supporting-flange B. (See Figs. 1 and 4.) This flange rests upon the baseplate, the tube being inserted therethrough. The cross-piece A is notched on one side to receive the tube, as clearly appears in Fig. 3. This enables the ready assembling of the parts.
The horizontal portion of the burner-tube is cut away on its lower side at I) to form an air-inlet. A sliding valve 6 is provided for controlling this air-inlet. This valve is formed of sheet metal and is conformed to engage the longitudinally arranged ribs 5 on the burner-tube, whereby it is adjustably retained in position. The delivery-nozzle F projects into the burner-tube to deliver thereto.
The base is provided with an upwardly-projecting flange a, adapted to receive the lower end of the burner-casing 0. The burner-casing is perforated to allow the free access of air to the burner. This casing is comparatively short and is open at its upper end.
A drum-like body is supported above the burner-casing. The diameter of this body is greater than that of the burner-casing and extends somewhat below its upper end. The body preferably consists of the sheet-metal cylinder or barrel C, the top C, and the rim C. The top (1 is provided with a downwardly-projecting flange 0, on which the upper end of the barrel C is arranged. The rim C is provided with an upwardly-projecting flange c", on which the lower end of the barrel C is arranged. These parts are secured together and to the base by the standards or supports E. These standards are provided with suitable offsets, so that they fit within the drum and the burner-casing, as is illustrated. The standards are preferably secured to the flanges of the top C and of the bottom rim C of the drum and to the flange a of the base. I also preferably secure the same to the upper end of the burner-casing, as is The parts are thus se cured together and supported in proper relation in a simple and efl"ective manner.
The top C of the stove is preferably provided with a lid 0', so that the stove may, if
desired, be used for cooking purposes. I desire to remark, however, that the same is not economical for use solely as a cooking-stove, as the top of the stove is so far removed from the burner. The stove is designed mainly for use as a heating-stove.
A removable cap D is provided to afford convenient access to the lid. This cap is provided with a suitable ornamental piece D.
In use the heated air or gases pass upwardly into the drum and are forced out at the bottom thereof. This delivers the same close to the floor, and the downwardly-flaring rim 0 gives them a downward direction. The heat is thus spread close to the floor. The drum or body becoming filled with the heated gases throws out a considerable amount of heat by radiation. The drum may be comparatively large without in any way. interfering with the burner, as the burner is surrounded by the casing c.
The casing 0 is perforated to allow the free passage of air to the burner and to allow it to flow through the same into the drum.
My improved gas-stove is economical in construction and is strong and durable. The drum or body portion is so arranged that the heat from the burner is not delivered directly thereon, so that its finish is not quickly destroyed.
I have illustrated and described my improved gas-stove in detail in the form preferred by me. I am aware, however, that it is capable of considerable structural variation without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
