Be itlmown that I, ORRIE H. FISHBURNE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Bottle-Stopper, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a bottle-stopper which may be very readily attached to and detached from a bottle, which will automatically close the mouth of the bottle when the bottle is in other than an inverted position, and which will be inexpensive and ornamental.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents in section a portion of a bottle with my improved stopper applied thereto, the parts being shown in their upright position with the mouth of the bottle closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the bottle inverted and the mouth open. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the stopper, and Fig. 4 is aface view of the same.

The body ot' the bottle is denoted by 1 and its neck by 2.

The bottle-stopper comprises a ring-like body 3, having a circumferential flange 4 at its base.

A plurality of spring-wires 5 are fastened at their upper ends within the body 3 of the stopper. In the present instance three of these wires are shown, and they are each provided at their lower portions with an outward bend, as shown at 6, for engaging the interior of the bottle where it begins to spread to lock the stopper to the bottle and an inward bend, as shown at 7 for facilitating the insertion of the wires into the bottle-neck.

The body 3 is provided with a bifurcated lupright 8.

Two arms 9 and 10 are hinged on a pintle 11 a distance above the top of the body 3 of the stopper. are provided with

12 and 13, which are arranged to open and close the top of the stopper. These doors and the seats on the body of the stopper are arranged diagonally, and the arms 9 and 10 are bowed outwardly, so as to insure a snug closing of the doors when the bottle is in an upright position and at the same time insure a ready opening of the doors when the bottle is inverted for pouring.

A sealing-washer 14 surrounds the spring- The lower ends of these arms wires 5 and is iitted to be cramped between the flange 4 at the bottom of the body 3 of the stopper and the mouth of the bottle. This will prevent the passage of liquid or air between the stopper and the mouth of the bottle.

1t is to be understood that the stopper may be made in various ornamental forms, so as to give an attractive appearance to the bottle to which it is applied.

It is also to be understood that the springwires 5 may be made of various lengths, so that their outwardly-bent portions will be brought into engagement with the flaring portion of the bottle at the base of its neck.

What l claim is 1. A bottle-stopper comprising a hollow body, an upright carried by the body and oppositely-swinging doors hinged to the upright arranged to open and close the top of the body.

2. A bottle-stopper comprising a hollow body, an upright carried by the body, oppositely-swinging doors hinged to the upright arranged to open and close the top of the body and spring-wires arranged to lock the stopper to a bottle.

3. A bottle-stopper comprising a hollow body having diagonal seats at its top, an upright carried by the body and diagonally-arranged doors having arms hinged to the upright whereby the doors are arranged to open and close the top of the body.

4. A bottle-stopper comprising a hollow body having diagonal seats at its top, an upright carried by the body, diagonally-arranged doors and outwardly-bowed arms connected to the doors at their lower ends and hinged to the upright at their upper ends whereby the doors are arranged to open and close the top of the body.

5. A bottle-stopper comprising a hollow body, doors arranged to open and close the passage therethrough and spring-wires depending from the body having outwardlybent portions arranged to engage the iiaring part of the interior of the bottle to lock the stopper in position on the mouth of the bottle.

6.
