Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom, it may concern:
' Be it known that I, CHESTER E. SHULER. a citizen of the United States, residing at Clifton, in the county of Washington and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to stands for music-leaf turners; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a stand which is adapted to support a key-operated music-leaf turner, the stand being provided with pedals which are connected by chains and rods with the keys of the musicleaf turner and which when depressed operate the leaf-turner. The said rods and chains are housed within a tube which constitutes the upright of the stand and are thus concealed and protected.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the stand with a leafturner attached. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the tube cut on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. the upper part of the tube. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the lower portion of the stand, and Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view of the lower portion of the tube.
The stand'consists of vertical tube 1, which is provided at its upper end with the rollers 2 2. The stand may be supported by the legs 3, arranged in tripod form, or by any other suitable support, as occasion or fancy may dictate.
The music-leaf turner 4 is provided with the operating-keys 5 5 and is mounted upon the upper end of the bar 6. Said bar is provided in its sides with the channels 7 7, and the end of said bar is adapted to enter the upper end of the tube 1 and being held therein by means of the set-screw 8.
The rods 9 9 are located within the tube 1. The upper ends of said rods enter the channels 7 7 of the bars 6, and the chains 10 1O bear against the rollers 2 2 and connect the upper ends of the rods 9 9 with the keys 5 5 of the music-leaf turner 4. The pedal-bar 11 slips into the lower end of the tube 1. Said pedal-bar 11 is provided in its sides with the channels 12 12, through which the lower ends of the rods 9 9 pass.
The lower ends of the coil-springs 13 13 are attached to the rods 9 9, and the upper ends of the said springs 13 are attached to the lower 3 is a vertical sectional view of end of the tube 1. The tension of the springs 13 13 is such as to have a tendency to maintain the rods 9 9 in elevated position within the tube 1.
The pedals 14 14 are pivoted to the lower ends of the pedal-bar 11, and the chains 15 15 are attached at their upper ends to the lower ends of the rods 9 9 and at their lower ends to the pedals 14 14.
The pedal-bar 11 is adjustably secured within the lower end of the tube 1 by means of the set-screw 16.
The operation of the device is as follows: The performer having placed a piece of music upon the music-leaf turner 4, the parts of the stand will be in the positions as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. When he desires to turn the sheet of music, he depresses one of the pedal-bars 14, which, through the chain 15, moves down one of the rods 9 against the tension of the spring 13, attached thereto. The said rod 9 pulls down the chain 10, attached to the upper end thereof, which in turn depresses one of the keys 5 and operates the music-leaf turner 4. When the pressure is relieved from the pedal 14, the spring 13 causes the parts to assume their normal position.
It is obvious that one of the pedals 14 is to be used for turning the music in one direction, while the other pedal is to be used for throwing the music in the opposite direction.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with a key-operated leafturner, a stand consisting of a bar attached to the turner and having a channeled side, a tube receiving the end of said bar, a rod located in said tube, a flexible connection attached to said rod and attached to a key of said leafturner, a pedal-bar having a channeled side and adapted to fit in the opposite end of said tube, a pedal pivoted to said pedal-bar, a flexible connection between the lower end of said rod and said pedal, a spring adapted to maintain said rod in an elevated position in said tube and a suitable support for the tube.

and fitting in the opposite end of said tube, a pedal pivoted to said pedal-bar, a flexible connection between the lower end of said rod and said pedal, a spring adapted to maintain said rod in an elevated position in said tube and a suitable support for the tube.
