Be it known that I, CHARLES R. WEBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spring'- lield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Cutters, of which the following is a specification. l
My invention relates to improvements in vertical sectional view taken on the line a: a'
of Fig. 2. Fig. 4; is a front elevation of the gage. Fig. 5 is an end elevation of the de vice shown in position on the straight-edge.
Like parts are represented by similar characters of reference in the several views.
In the said drawings, c represents the main frame of the device, which is recessed, as shown at a'. on its rear side for the reception of the cutting-disk o and is provided with a' forwardly extending boss a2. This boss a2 and the central portion of the frame t are bored out and screw-threaded to receive the screw-threaded end of an arbor c, upon which the cutting-disk is mounted and adapted to revolve, the said disk being held in position against a small boss c on the inner face of the frame by means of a collar c on the said arbor, or, if desired, instead of the boss c3 a washer may be interposed between the disk and frame. The arbor c is extended rearwardly from said collar c for a suitable distance and is extended through a slot d of a gage CZ, said arbor being provided at its rear end with a head c2, the said gage being fitted between said collar and head and held in position thereby. The said head is grooved, as shown, to receive a screw-driver for tightening up the parts in assembling the device.
Secured to the upper portion of the gage d is a spring e, the said spring being extended in opposite directions to the ends of the tool and adapted to bear on the under sides of rearwardly -projecting portions c" of the frame, said portions being suitably formed on their upper surfaces to provide a convenient means for grasping the tool in operation.
The respective ends of the gage Z are enlarged and provided with down\vardlypro jecting flanges d2 (Z3, each of said flanges (Z2 having at its lower end a rearwardly-prejecting lip df. The respective ends of the main frame o are formed with straight faces a, and the said flanges d and that portion of the gage from which said flanges extend are also formed with straigl'it guiding-faces (Z5, the said frame being adapted to lit snugly between said gage-faces, but adapted to move freely between the same, which form guides therefor, the said gage and its flanges Z2 being extended forwardly at this point, so as to stand substantially flush with the outer or front surface of the frame.
The straight-edge which I employ is represented at j' and has on its upper surface a groovefl to receive the flange d of the gage and has also on its forward edge a groove f2 to receive the lips Zi of the flanges ci. The said straight edge between the respective grooves f and f is provided with the usual metal reinforcing-strip f 3.
It will be seen from the construction described that I have provided a cutting-tool which is very simple in construction and yet efiicient in operation. The arbor not only supports the cutting-disk, but also provides a means for holding the main frame and gage together and also forms a stop for the main frame in its upward movement under the aetion of the spring. The boss u? also serves as a handle for operating the tool in connection with the portions c of the frame, and the. arrangement and construction permit the tool to be used either by a right or left handed operator. If desired, the screw-threaded portion of the arbor can be extended through the rear end of the boss to receive a lockingnut to prevent the arbor from turning.
Having thus described my invention, I claiml. In a cutting-tool, the combination of a main frame, a gage, and a cutting-disk, of an arbor forming the support for said disk and also forming the means for connecting said frame and gage movably together, substantially as specified.

In a cutting-tool, a gage having guidingfaces thereon, a frame mounted between said guiding-faces, an arbor on said frame carrying a cutting-disk, said arhox` forming the means for connecting said gage and frame together but permitting' a movement of said frame with relation to said gage, substantially as specilied.

In a paper-cutter, a main frame, an arbor in said frame, a cutting-disk mounted on said arbor, and a gage provided with a slotted opening, said arbor being extended through said slotted opening to form a sliding connection between said frame and gage and also to form a stop for said frame in its movement in one direction, and a spring between said gage and frame, substantially as specified.

In a cutting-tool, a main frame, an arbor therein, a cutting-disk mounted on said arbor, a gage secured to said frame by means of said arbor, the connection being such as to permit a vertical sliding movement of said frame and arbor with relation to said gage, said gage forming a stop for said arbor in its upward movement, guiding-faces at the ends of said gage for said frame, and a spring between said Jframe and gage, substantially as specified.
5. In a cutting-tool, a main recessed frame, a iXed arbor therein, a cutting-disk mounted on said arbor within the recess of said frame, a collar on said arbor to hold said disk in position, a gage having a slotted opening through which said arbor extends, a head on said arbor to hold said frame in position on said gage, a spring between said gage and frame, and guiding-faces on said gage for said frame, substantially as specified.
6. In a cutting-tool, a straight-edge, the groove f on the upper surface of said straightedge and the groove f2 on the outer edge of said straight-edge, a gage having a down- \var :llyprojecting iange to it in said groove f, and also having a downwardly-projecting iange formed with a laterally-eXtending lip which [its in the groove f2, acutter-carrying frame slidingly connected to said gage, said gage having straight guiding-faces for said frame to cause a straight vertical movement of said frame within said gage, and a spring between said gage and frame, substantially as specified.
