Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burdett, in the county of Schuyler and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Spraying Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices for spraying plants of various kinds, and has for its object to improve the construction and increase the efficiency of devices of this character.

With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to Without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device complete. Fig. 2 is a side view of the truck portion of the device.

In the improved device is comprised a platform 10, mounted upon an axle 11, on which are journaled carrier-wheels 12 13, said platform being provided with a suitable drafttongue, (represented at 14:.)

Mounted upon the platform 10 is a receptacle 15, preferably in barrel form and provided with a suction-pump 16, said pump being of any approved form and provided with the usual operating-handle 17 and hose-discharging member 18, terminating in a spraynozzle 19.

Attached, as by clips 20 21, to the free end of the handle member 17 is an arm 22, having alink 23 coupled to its free end by a transverse pin 24:, and disposed at right angles to said pin and pivoted to this link, as by a pin 25, is a rod 26.

Attached, as by clips 26 27, to the spokes of the wheel 12 is a strap 28, having a crankpin 29 extending laterally therefrom and terminating in a globular head 30.

Connected to the lower end of the rod 26 is a clip 31, having a globular interior cavity for engaging the globular crank-pin head 30.

The strap 28 is provided with a plurality of apertures for the clips 26 27, so that the strap may be adjusted upon the spokes of the wheel 12 for increasing or decreasing the stroke of the pump-handle or for adapting the device to wheels of different sizes or forms.

With a device thus constructed any of the various forms of pumps may be coupled for automatic action while being drawn over the ground and the spray thrown in any required direction and with any desired degree offorce, as will be obvious, and readily adjusted to any required extent.

By providing the novel form of coupling means, as by the swinging link 23 and the ball-and-socket joint 30 31, the device operates without undue strain or cramping no matter how much the platform and other parts may sway about or otherwise change their position.

Having described the invention, what is claimed is- In a device of the class described, a platform, carrier wheels journaled thereon, a liquid-containing receptacle mounted on the platform, a pump secured to the receptacle for forcing liquid from the-same and provided with an operating-handle, an arm detachably secured to the free end of the handle and having a depending link pivoted thereto, a perforate strap adjustably secured to one of the carrier-wheels and having its opposite ends bent upwardly in the direction of the hub of said wheel, a spherical crank-pin extending laterally from the central portion of said strap, a pitman having one end thereof bifurcated for the reception of a depending link and pivotally connected to the latter by a transverse pin and its opposite end pivotally connected with said crank-pin, and clips passing through the perforations in the straps and engaging the spokes of said carrier-wheel whereby said straps may be adjustable vertically to vary the stroke of the pump-handle.
