Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1905.
Application filed May 26, 1905, Serial No. 262,492.
To all 'La/7,0m t 711,04/ con/cern:
Be it known that I, HUGO LENTZ, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented a new and useful Turbine-VVheel Having Removable Paddles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to a form of turbinewheel having removable paddles and to a method for easily and securely attaching paddles to turbine-wheels.
The object of my invention is to produce a turbine-wheel having the paddles, while readily removable, securely locked thereto.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown embodiments of my invention.
Figure l is a cross-sectional view of a portion oi' a turbine-wheel, showing the paddles assembled in place. Fig. 2 is a side view of a portion oi' a wheel, the paddles not being attached; and Fig. 8 is a longitudinal section of said wheel.
The wheel may have peripheral projecting paddle-supports, which may be bars or rods preferably atiixed to or integral with the wheel-rim, and these bars or rods may be square or have projecting edges or be grooved or ribbed or otherwise formed to prevent the turning thereon oi' the attached paddles. The turbine-wheel shown in my drawings is provided with a grid or grate like periphery comprising the bars and a continuous peripheral rim and having the openings CZ. The body of the wheel is indicated at e. The said paddles c may have the usual or any desired curved impact-faces and be formed or provided with any suitable means for engaging directly or indirectly with the rods or bars I). 1f desired, the paddles may have rearwardlyprojecting wings, as shown in Fig. l, thus 'forming a recess in the rear of the blade reverse] y corresponding to the exterior of a rod or bar L. By this means a tight tit between the paddle and supporting rod or bar is assured; but an additional pin` bar, rod, or key may be used to assure a tight engagement of the parts.
In tting the form of paddles shown in Fig. 1 the paddle will be iirst slid into place and the rear edges of the wings will be bent toward one another to form the lock'irig-iianges 0. If desired, such lockingdianges may be formed upon the wingsbefore attachment to the wheel.
In place of the ianges c any other form of locking connection, eitherintegral with or separate from the paddles, may be used.
My present invention will be found useful either with axial or radial turbines.
Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent` isl. A turbine-wheel having peripherallyprojecting paddle-supports and a continuous wheel-rim integral with and at the outer ends of said supports.
2. A turbine-wheel having peripherallyprojecting paddle-supports, and a continuous wheel-rim integral with and at the outer ends of said supports, and removable impact-paddles rigidly secured into engagement with the paddle-supports.
3. A turbine-wheel having peripherallyprojecting paddle supports, a continuous wheel-rim integral with and at the outer ends of said supports, and removable impact-paddles having rearwardly projecting wings, which slidably engage the middle-supports.
In testimony whereotl I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
