This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in stackers for hay and the like.
The invention has for its object the production of an apparatus of this character by means of which hay, straw, manure, and the like may be conveniently and compactly stacked with but a minimum expenditure of time and labor. I
A further object is to provide the elevating apparatus with simple and ellicient means whereby the load may be dumped in any desired position and at any desired heig'ht.
A further object is to provide means whereby the elevating device is revolved upon its support simultaneously with the elevation thereof.
Another object is to provide means whereby the apparatus may be folded and conveniently arranged for transportation.
To these ends the invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation illustrating' my invention in position to receive a load, parts being' shown in section. Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the apparatus in act of elevating' the load. Fig. 3 is a plan 4View of the elevating-fork, the supporting-frame being shown in section. Fig. 4 is a view illustrating' the apparatus ready for transportation. Fig. 5 is a detail. Fig. 6 is a view illustrating' a manurescoop adapted for use with my invention. Fig. 7 is a detail.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates a base or sled which may, if desired, be provided with wheels or casters 11 for convenience in transportation. ln the side bars of said base or sled is pivotally mounted a crossbar 12, in which rotates the swivel-bolt 13 of the revolving platform or turn-table 14. The carriage or elevating device is,V mounted to work on upright beams 15, rigidly supported in the platform or turn-table 14. Said carriage comprises a triangular frame 16, provided with rollers 17,bearing against beams 15.A
The fork or load-receiving device comprises a series of bars or tmes 18, united by crossbars 19 20, the former being hinged to the carriage 16 at 21 by any suitable means, the fork being cut out to embrace the frame 'formed by beams 15. Extending' (iliagonally across the cross-bars 19 2O and converging at the rear of the fork are bars 22, the abutting ends of said bars being united by a plate 23, to which is pivotally connected a verticallyextending locking-bar 24. The upper end of said locking-bar is projected between the abutting ends of converging operating-arms 25, pivoted to frame 16, said bar being' provided with a notch or recess 26, adapted to receive a latch-bar 27, pivoted to one of the arms 25 and normally held in engagement with said notch or recess by means of a spring 28. Said latch-bar is connected by an arm or pitman 29 to a lever 30, which is pivotally mounted in frame 16 and bifurcated at its free end to embrace a rope 31, passed over pulleys 32 and provided with a tappet 33, adapted to engage said bifurcated end. The diverging ends of arms 25 are provided with rings 34, which are engaged by the hooked ends of a rod or shaft 35, upon which is mounted a pulley 36.
To the top of the frame formed by beams 15 is secured a rope 37, which is passed around pulley 36 and then oliver a second pulley 38, adjacent said secured end. From thence said rope is passed under a pulley 39, mounted on platform 14, and passed around one of thc divisions 40 of a drum 41, mounted between the side bars of base 10, the end of said rope being' secured to said drum. '.lo a drum 42, carried by platform or turn-table 14, is secured one end of a rope 43, and said rope after encircling said drum is passed around the division 44 of drum 41 and thence over a pulley 45, mounted in an upright 46. rlhe free end of said rope is provided with a weight 47, adapted to rest upon a bracket or support 48, the latter being provided with a cam 4S. A second rope 49 is also secured to drum 42 and after passing' around pulley 50 is passed overa second pulley 51, carried by an upright frame 52. A weight 53 is also secured to the free end of rope 49. The draft-rope 54 is secured at one end to a third division 55 of drum 41 and after being passed around the same is attached to a doubletree 56 or other suitable draft device. A cord or rope 57 is also applied or attached to the weight 47.
rlhe fork is illustrated in Fig. 1 in position to receive the load. ln practice when the load has been placed upon the fork power is applied to rope 54, by which means drum 4l is rotated. As said drum revolves the rope 37 is wound thereon, thereby starting the elevation of the carriag'e 16 and fork 18. At the desired time the rope 57 is pulled, thus jerking' weight 47 from its supporting-bracket. The rope 43, a bight of which passes around the division 44 of the drum 4l, is thus tightened, causing a frictional engagement between the rope and the drum, whereby said rope will be unwound from the drum 42, causing a rotation of the latter, by means of which the entire device is swung around at an angle to its former position. Simultaneously with this movement rope 49 is wound upon drum 42, thereby elevating weight 53. Then power is first applied to rope 37, the effect is to elevate the diverging ends of arms 25 and to depress the converg'ing ends' thereof, resulting' in a correspondingly downward movement of the locking-bars 24. The effect of this movement is to depress the converging ends of bars 22 and to elevate the ends of the tines of the fork until the center of gravity of the load is directly under pulley 36, whereupon the carriag'e will be elevated with the parts in this position. The position thus secured remains unchanged until the desired height is secured. The rope 31 having been previously adjusted so as to place the tappet at the proper elevation, said tappet will thus operate to disengage the latch-bar 27 from bar24, whereupon the load will be dumped, the parts then assuming the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. After the load is dumped the fork and its carriage are returned to normal position by gravity, and the weight 53 serves to swing the fork back to its original position. At the same time rope 43 is again wound upon drum 42 and the weight 47 again elevated, being guided by cam 48' to its proper position on bracket or support 48.
When it is desired to transport my improved stacker, the lock-bar 24 is disengaged from latch-bar 27 and the fork folded against beams l5, as illustrated in Fig. 4. The beams are also turned back to rest upon the crossbar of frame 52.
If desired, manure may be loaded by disengaging the hooked ends of the rod or shaft 35 from the arms 25 and securing to said hooks a rope 58, connected to ascraper 59. By this arrangement the scraper may be dragged along' the ground when power is applied to rope 37, and as shaft 35 is elevated said scraper will be carried with it. Then in the proper position, the scraper may be dumped by releasing' a trigger 60, normally' engaging a pivoted trap or bottom.
The advantages of my invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which it appertains. It will be particularly noted that I have provided improved means whereby the load may be readily and easily elevated to any desired height and deposited in any preferred position and that loss of time is avoided by swinging the load simultaneously with the elevation thereof. It will also be observed that I have provided means whereby the load is held in such manner that accidental discharge thereof is impossible and that I have also provided positively-operated means for promptly effecting the discharge of said load at the proper time. It will be further noted that I have provided an improved stacker which may be readily folded to occupya minimum space when ready for transportation.
I claim as my inventionl. An apparatus of the character described comprising a frame or support, an elevating fork or carrier supported thereby, and means for engaging the rear end of said fork or carrier to automatically depress said end as the fork or carrier is elevated.

An apparatus of the character described comprising" a frame or support, a carriage or elevator supported thereby, a fork or carrier mounted on said carriage or elevator, means for engaging the rear end of said fork or carrier to automatically depress said end as said carriage is elevated, and means for releasing' said fork from said depressing means.

An apparatus of the character described comprising a frame or support, a carriage or elevator supported thereby, a fork or carrier mounted on said carriage or elevator, means for elevating said carriage and simultaneously engaging the rear end of said fork or carrier to depress the same, and means for releasing said fork.

An apyniratus ot the characterdescribed comprising a main trame, a drum mounted to rotate therein, an elevator-frame mounted on said drum, a carrier, a second drum mounted in said main `trame, cormections between said drums` and also between said second drum and said carrier, and means tor rotating said second drum, whereby said elevator-'frame is rotated and said carrier simultaneously elevated.

An apparatus of the character described comprising a main frame, a drum mounted to rotate therein, an elevator-frame mounted upon said drum, a carrier, a second drum mounted in said main iframe, a weighted rope uniting said drums, a rope extending from said second drum to said carrier, a second weighted. rope extending from the first-mentioned drum, and means 'for rotatingl said second drum.
