Description

No. 802,180. PATENTED OCT. 17, 1905. W. N. BEBOUT.
CURTAIN FIXTURE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 18.1905.
a a mw h WILLIAM N. BEBOUT, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
I No. 802,180. I
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17, 1905.
Application filed May is, 1905. Serial No. 261,025.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM N. BEBOUT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain-fixtures; and the invention has for its object to provide a novel fixture wherein means is employed for vertically adjusting curtains or drapery carried by said fixtures.
Another object of this invention is to provide a novel attachment for window-frames wherein suitable brackets are employed'for supporting a curtain-pole and curtains, also a shade-roller, novel means being employed to vertically adjust the attachment upon the window-frame.
A further object of this invention is to provide an attachment for window-frames which will be extremely simple in construction, strong and durable, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and highly efficient for the purposes for which it may be used.
The invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and, referring to the drawings accompanying this application, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the top part of a window-frame, illustrating my improved attachment applied thereto. elevation view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of a spring-actuated wheel or drum used in connection with my improved attachment, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail side elevation view of a bracket employed in connection with my improved fixture.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a window frame consisting of side frames 1 1 and a top or transverse frame 2. The top or transverse frame 2 is provided with a plate 3, or the frame 2 may be constructed whereby it will extend outwardly beyond the side frames 1 1. The plate 3, which overhangs the window-frame, is adapted to support my improved fixture. The side frames 1 1 are provided with angular brackets 4 4, secured to the side frames by suitable screws Fig. 2 is a side.
5 5. The outwardly-extending portions of the brackets 4 4 are provided with apertures 6 6, through which pass rods 7 7, extending upwardly through vertically-disposed openings 8 8, formed in the ends of the plate 3. The top surface of the plate 3 is provided with es.- cutcheon-plates 9 9, through which the screwthreaded ends 10 10 of the rods 7 7 pass, and in order to retain the rods in a vertical position relative ,to the window-frame I provide the lower ends of the rods with knobs or heads 11 11 and secure nuts 12 12 upon the screwthreaded ends 10 10 of the rods 7 7.
By referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings it will be observed that aset of rods is provided upon each of the frames 1 1, and upon said rods are mounted plates 14 14, said plates carrying rearwardly-extending bosses or sleeves 15 15, through which the rods 7 7 pass. The plates 14 14 are connected together by a transverse tie-rod 16, and connected to said rod adjacent to the plates 14 14 are chains 17 and 17, connected to double sprocket wheels or drums 18 and 18', which are journaled upon a shaft 19, mounted in brackets 20 20, carried by the plate 3 or frame 2.- The double sprocket wheels or drums 18 and 18', journaled upon the shaft 19, are actuated by spirally-wound springs 21 21, the ends of said springs being connected to the shaft 19, as indicated at 22, and to the sprocket wheels or drums 18 and 18, as indicated at 23 23. By this construction the sprocket wheels or drums 18 and. 18 operate independently of one another; but I preferably make the springs 21 21 of each of the sprocket-wheels of a sufficient tension to normally hold the plates 14 14 in horizontal alinement. The tension of the springs mounted within the sprocket wheels or drums is sufficient to assist in the elevation of the plates 14 14 upon the rods 7, and should the tie-rod 16 be pulled down and quickly released the springs are adapted to pull the plates upwardly into engagement with the plate 3.
The sprocket wheels or drums are made of a sufficient diameter to accommodate the chains 17 17 when the plates are at their highest elevation upon the rods 7 7.
The plates 14 14 are provided with outwardly-extending brackets 24 24, having hookshaped ends 25 25, which serve to support a curtain-pole. (Not shown.) The plates 14 14 are also provided with the conventional form of pierced and slotted lugs 26 26 to accommodate a curtain-shade roller.
From the foregoing it will be observed that I have devised a substantial fixture for window-frames capable of supporting large curtains and shade-rollers, the fixture being particularly applicable to Window-frames of considerable width.
I do not care to confine myself to the length of the rods 7 7, as they can be made to extend from the bottom of the Window-frame to the top thereof in order to facilitate the hanging of curtains and shade-rollers.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit and scope of the invention.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination with a window-frame, of the plate arranged in front of the upper portion of the window-frame and extending outwardly therefrom, brackets secured to the side frames of the window-frame, two verticallydisposed rods sustained by each of said brackets, and extending in rear of said plate, plates slidably mounted upon said rods, brackets carried by said plates and adapted to support a curtain-pole and ashade-roller and two springactuated sprocket-wheels arranged above said first named plate, chains carried by said sprocket-Wheels and connected to the plates which are mounted on said rods, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a window-frame of two vertically-disposed rods mounted on each side of the frame, and spaced in front of same,
- WILLIAM N. BEBOUT.
