Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sep?. 12, 1905.
i Application {iled June 27, 1905. Serial No. 267,219.
To rz/ZZ whom, t r11/ay concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES CHABAU, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan,in the county and State of'New York, have invented a new and Improved W'indow, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relatesto improvements in windows of the class designed to be swung into a room for the purpose of conveniently cleaning the outer side of the glass, the object being to provide asu pplemental swinging casing in which the upper and lower sash are arranged to slide and whereby both sashes may be moved together' to the inner side of a room for the purpose above mentioned.
I will describe a window embodying my invention and then point outthe novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similarcharacters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a window embodying my invention, parts being broken away and in section; and Fig. 2 is a section on the line w :v of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, l designates the main window-casing, and 2 the supplemental or sash-carrying casing, havingswingingconnection with the main casing. As here shown, the supplemental casing has hinges 3, connecting with a spacing-board 4, rigidly secured in the main casing. Arranged to slide between the free side of the supplemental casing and the adjacent side of the main casing is a stop-board 5, which when the supplemental casing is closed will prevent the entrance of air, dirt, or the like; but to swing the supplemental casing-inward the said stopboard must be removed. The stop-board is held in place by means of bolts 6, which pass through openings in the supplemental casing and openings in the stop-board and have their threads engaging with threaded socket members 7- in an upright of the main casing. These fastening-bolts are provided with iinger-pieces 8, so that they may be readily inserted or removed.
The operation of the device is quite obviouse-that is, when it is desired to swing the supplemental frame inward for the purpose of washing the outer side of the windowglass the bolts 6 are to be removed and the stop-board 5 drawn out., so as to permit the sash-carrying frame to swing in the are of a circle. Y
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a window, the combination with a main casing, of a sash-carrying casing mounted to swing in the mainY casing, and a stopboard for sliding between the free side of the sash-carrying casing and the main casing.
2. In a window, the combination with a main casing, of a sash-carrying casing mount-` ed to swing in the main casing, a stop-board for sliding between thefree side of the sashcarrying casing and the main casing, and means for securing the said stop-board in place.
3. In a window, the combination with a main casing, of a supplemental casing mounted to swing therein on a horizontal plane, a Stop-board adapted to slide between the sashcarrying casing and the main casing, and bolts for passing through the main casing and the stop-board and engaging with an upright of the main casing.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
