GARMENT FORM.

GARMENT-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12 1905.
Application filed October 31, 1904. Serial No. 230,636.
1'0 uf/ [wit/nu, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD CONSTANTINIG SonMIpT, a resident of Jersey City, Hudson county, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Forms, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to garment-forms or display-figures, and has for its object to provide an improved device of this character wherein the head portion is detachable from the body portion, so that the same may be used for different display and the body be used with a variety of heads.
To these and other ends, which will hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the novel features of improvement and combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter set forth, and finally summarized in the appended claims.
In the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a side elevation, partly in section, of a garmentform embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the body portion of the garment-form on a reduced scale. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the head portion of the garment-form, also on a reduced scale, the shape of the base in this instance being of somewhat different form; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the base portion of the head of the garment-form, on a reduced scale, the shape of the base in this instance being also of a different form.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the body portion of the garment-form, the upper part of which is provided with an inclined tapered recess or channel 2, the sides 3 of said recess being, by preference, angularly disposed and gradually converging toward each other to the front of the body, as shown in Fig. 3. The head portion 4: is pro vided with a tapering base 4:, which is adapted to snugly fit within the recess 2 of the body 1, the sides 5 of the base 1 being, by preference, angularly disposed to match the sides 3 of the recess 2, whereby the head portion of the garmentform can be readily slipped into position upon the body portion and firmly held thereon. \Vhen in position, the end 6 of the base 4 will be flush with the outer surface of the garment-form body. (See Fig. 1.) In
order to secure the head portion and body portion of the garment-form more firmly yet detachably together, I provide the body 1 within the recess 2 with a block 10, secured to the shelf 7, which block acts as a key and stop within the slot 13 of a spanner 12, provided in the base of thehead portion, as'shown in Figs. 1 and 4.
8 indicates a bolt or the like passing through the block 10 and shelf 7 and which has mounted upon it a wing 9, and between the wing and block 10 is a spring 11, adapted to keep the wing up, the opposite end of the bolt below the shelf 7 being screw-threaded and receiving a nut 9.
In order to get at the wing 9 when the head and body are assembled to turn the same into locking-position, I provide the head portion 4 at a point which corresponds to the back of the neck with an opening 14, through which the fingers of the operator can be inserted. In order to facilitate the withdrawal of the head portion from the assembled position, I provide at the base thereof a piece of felt or the like 15, which can be readily gripped without soiling the wax of which the headpieces are usually constructed.
To secure the body and head portions together, the base 4 of the head portion is pushed or slid into the recess 2, with the wing 9 and bolt 8 projecting through the slot 13!, the wing 9 being designed to pass through the slot when turned parallel with the same. Having done this the operator inserts his lingers within the opening 14: and turns the wing until it firmly presses against the spanner 12. (See Fig. 1.) To disassemble the parts, this operation is reversed. The block 10 within the slot 13 when the head portion is in position upon the body portion acts as a stop or abutment, as will be seen from Figs. 1 and 3, preventing the head portion from slipping out of its proper position upon the body. a
The head portion of the garment-form hereinabove described is preferably a wax figure, with a suitable framework and base of wood or other material, and the body portion 1 is by preference constructed of papier-mz'ich or the like upon a suitable framework of wellknown construction.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A garment-form, comprising a body portion having an inclined channel at the top, and a head portion adapted to fit in the inclined channel, the base of the head portion having a slot, and the inclined channel being provided With a block adapted to enter the slot.
2. In a garment-form, a body portion and a detachable head portion, the body portion being provided With an inclined tapered recess adapted to receive the base of the head portion, and means for holding the head and body portions together.
3. A garment-form comprising a body portion-and a detachable head portion, the body portion being provided With a tapering recess or channel, and the head portion being provided With a tapering base adapted to fit Within said recess, and means for locking the head and body portions together.
4. A garment-form, comprising a body, a
detachable head portion, the body being probear upon the wing, all substantially as and for the purpose described.
5. A garment-form comprising a body portion, having an inclined channel at the top, the side Walls whereof converge toward each other, and a head portion adapted to be de tachably secured to the said body portion, the head portion having an inclined base adapted to snugly fit in said channel, substantially as described.
6. A garment-form comprising a body portion having an inclined channel at the top with side walls converging toward the front, a stud rising from the base of the channel, and a head portion adapted to be detachably secured to the body portion, the base of the head portion fitting in said channel and provided With a slot adapted to receive said stud, substantially as described.
