I In the centre of the disk C is n circulan hole, through which the spindle .11 passes. In'this disk a re radial openings, e, audbn each side of the said radial openings are flanges, which project below the bottom-of the disk C. In these openings c, are placed thelerers D, which are pivoted to the flanges ol' the said openings, as seen at (i, fig; 3. The levers D are the same length as the width of the entrance of the place where the instrument Over the disk 0 is a cap, E, which is held in its position by means of a nut; bfonthe topbf the spindle B- On the in-idc of the cap E is a fixed cam, F, which is placed on the side of the cap next to the entrance, and,is for the'purpose oi' opernting the levers I p The register G and the bell II tllc secured to the under side of the top of the cap E, as se'en -'in'fig.4.
0n the top of the disk C are placed cums. d; there being the some number of'c'ams as there. are openings for levers. I
.On the outside of the cap E are placed two stops, e, placed at suitable positions to prevent the reiscd levcr fr m being pushed too far around. In the top of the cap E is aslot, located over the openingf in the register G.
If desired, glass may he placed in the slot, through which the figures may be seen.
'Dhc register-case, G, is .1 circular box, one end of which is removable. Inside of this case G. ere inserted the circular register-rings. h i. Inside of the rings are the desired number of ratchet-teeth.
The rings h i have, inside of their circumferences, on one side ratchet-teeth, and on the other a llauge,j, both extending around the entire inside of the rings.
i To the ring g there is attached a cylinder, k, that extends inside the rings it i to the end of the cm G. In
the cylinder]; is a slot, Z, so that the pnwls that operate the rs'tchets in the rings In may fall through and move the ring h once to every revolution of the ring g.
The second flange of the succeeding-ring) heving but one indentstion,.holds the pawl of the ring 2' from falling until the ring I: makes :1 revolution, othat the ring g will make twenty revolutions while the ring his making one; also, the ringg makes four hundred revolutions while the ring i rnakes one, increasing by the geometrical rntio'of twenty.
Tho register-rings g it a are placed side hy sido, inside the case G, and are revolved by pawls g b if. T-heae pawlsare pivoted-to the arms of the reciprocating shaft I, constructed as shown at iig. 7, its hearings being the ends of the case G. To tho ends of this shaft is attached a lever, J, that is pivoted to an arm, K.
At one side of the removable end of the case G is pivoted a lever, L, on' the lower endof which is o frictionrollor, m. I I I In the end of tho lcver K, next-to the lever L, is a slot, a, through which a screw is inserted into the lever L, thns connecting the levers J and L;
Tho operation is as follows: when the instrument is stationary, ono of the lovers, 1), is horiaontally'across the" entrance, a nd all the -others.aro' hanging downvortieally, as seen in figs. '1, 2,;and 3. -As the horizontal lever is moved forward it'revolves the disk 0, at the saine time the next succeeding level-hack is'rising totake the place 0f the onejnst moved; r
The levers are raised by their inner ends coming in'eontac t w'ith the fixed can: F, and are holdup hyjt until the said lever has he'sn moved far enough to allow the person to have'passcd in, and it their drops down into the position corresponding tothat of the other levers.
As the disk C revolves, one of the cams, d, comcsin contact with the friction-roller m on the lever L, which is moved fo'ru ard, at the some time moving the l'oversK and'J, which causes the shaft Ijto make-a partial revo lnti'on. At the same time, oneor niore of-the-puwls heing,engaged in the rutchets of the register-rings, moves the said ring or-rin'gs, andrthns reg istorstho forward movement 05 the'lever Di As soon as the com d has passed the lever L, the spring M forcesthe levers J K L hack into their former position, and the'po'wls also come back and fall into the next ratchet-tooth. At'the sometime the hell is struckby the hammer N, which is attached to the'lever L, and the instrument is again in proper position for registering. Having thus fully'describedour invention, that reclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
