Application iiied December 10,1904. Serial No. 2361286.
fo (all 11172/11711/ it 711,111.1/ concer/1f:
Be it known that i, G nonen Ronin nL, a citizen ol the United States` residing in-New iifork, borough oi' the Bronx, in the citate oi New York, have invented certain new and uselul improvements in lilou-Refillable Bottles, ot' which the followingI is a specification.
This invention relates to a non-relillable bottlc of that class in which the contents of the bottle can be conveniently poured out, but in which the bottle cannot be relilled. atter the same has been emptied; and the object otl the invention is the provision ot a bottle oi this type embodying an improved valve which readilyT Ypermits the outpouring ol the liquid, but which cannot be opened from the exterior ot' the bottle in order to allow liquid to be poured into the latter.
lNith these ends in view the invention consists inthe novei features and combinations of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
1n the accompanying drawings, illustrative of one embodiment of the inventioin Figures 1 and 2 are vertical transverse sections through the neck of a bottle provided with my improved non-reiillable attachment; and Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section oi the bottlc, showing it in inclined position iter showing the second position oi the valve when pouring the contents of the bottle.
Similar letters of rel'erence indicate corre spending parts.
Ri-iierring tothe drawings, A denotes a bottle in connection with which my improved non-reijllable attachment is used.
li is the neck vof the bottle, which is provided with a bulge D between the connection oi the neck of the bottle with the body thereol and the mouth ot' the same. ln the bulged portion oi the neck is inserted a cylindrical vaive-casing C by means ot a suitable layer et' cork (Z, said vaine-casing being open at the lower end, closed at the upper end, and provided with longitudinal slots z5 in its side, The valve-seat f, which is arranged in the lower portion of the casing C, is provided. with an upwardly-extending cylindrical cage U, which is retained by cement in the casing (fl and provided with slots or openings t', registering with the slots or openings thereo'l.
rlhe valve-casing C as well as the interior cage C and valve-seat f are preferablymade oi porcelain or glass or ot aluminium or other suitable light non-corrosive metal. The interior ot the cage tapered, being thicker at the closed end and thinner toward the valvescat, as shown.
,in the valve-casing are arranged two balls 7; and L', the former acting as a valve in connection with the valve-seat, the other1 otl greater weight, resting on the lower ballvalve in the cage ot' the same, said upper heavier ball serving ior tightlyr closing thc bottle when the lower ball is in position in the valve-seat, so as to prevent the refilling of the bottle after the same is emptied. The tapering interior ol,f the cage facilitates the return oig the balls as soon as the bottle is held in horizontatposition and prevents thereby tampering and relilling ol the bottle when held in horizontal position. A. layer/1 ol: telt or other suitable material interposed, between the top ot the valve-casing and the upper edge of the valve-cage serves to deaden the noise caused b v the striking ol the upper ball against the top et' the valve-casing.
Between the upper end oi the valve-casing and the upper end ot the bulged portion o'lI the neck is formed an annular space which permits the tree course ot the liquid from the bottle when the same is placed in inclined position, as shown in Fig. 23, in which case the balls move forward to the closed end otl the valve-casing and ball-cage, so that the liquid can pass ireely through the valve to the lower end ot the valvc-casil'ig, the slots in the side wall of the same, and the annular space between the bulged neck and the upper end of the valve-easing' to the mouth ot the bottle.
in the mouth oi the bottle is arranged an interior collar fill, which is made integral with a sleeve E, that is attached b v its upper outwardly and downwardliY VFolded portion to the exterior rim ol'I the bottle-mouth and which may be iliade oli aluminium or other suitable light metal and cemented to the bottle-mouth. 'lhe sleeve at the top ot' the collar forms a seat ior the cork, while the collar itself serves for preventing the torcilialc removal ol the valve-casing from the bottle, so as to el'l'ect the relilling ot' the same.
rthe attachment can be readilyy applied to the bottle-neck, the valve-casing by cementing it into the lower contracted portion of the bottle-neck and the collar in the manner described.
rthe parts can Vbe manufactured ata small expense and attached tothe bottle-neck be- Jfore the stime is filled with the liquid and oorked.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secu re by Letters Patent In a non-ieillable bottle, tlie combination, with the bottle proper, of a valve-easing snpported in the neck thereof and provided with openings in its side Wall, said easing being Closed at the top, a Cage Within said casing provided with openings registering with Said first-named openings, said cage being open at its upper end, a layer of sound-deadening material interposed between the top 'of said easing and the top edg'e of said Cage, a valvesedt Carried by said cage, and e ball Within said cage adapted to cooperate with said valveseat.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
GEORGE ROMMEL.
