Description

P. ZMMERIVAN. Hanging Millstones.
Patented July 7,* 1868.
i No. 79,717.
@eine gisten getnt @Hita Letters .Patent No. 79,717, dated July 7, 1868.
IMPROVED DEVICE lIOR HANGING MILLSTONES.
Elg Stigchnle rentra tu im ilgesc ritn's izrteut' mit lurking niet nf tige smut.'
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, PETER ZIMMERMAN, of Delaware Water Gap, in the county ot' Monroe, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement. in Apparatus for Hanging:r Millstones; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to inak'e and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a plan View of the bottom of my improved hanging-device, and
Figure 2 represents a partial section on the line :v :u of, g. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The nature of my invention relates to improvements in apparatus for hanging running millstones, whereby 'it is designed to provide a means for accommodating the action of the spindle with reference to the stone, in case the spindle does not. stand perpendicular to the face ofthe bed-stone; and it consists inthe arrangement of a hail or suspending-apparatus for the stone, so as to possess the quality of a universaljoint, whereby, although the face of the stones may not be perpendicular with the spindle, the jarring and' pounding action of the parts, usually occurring when rigidly connected together, will be avoided, as will he more fully described on reference tothe accompanying drawings. l
A represents a bail, vwhich is secured to the stone by the lugs A A in` the usual manner, except that it is permitted to rock4 slightly in the recesses in the face of the stone, wherein the lugs Af and A t. The upper portion of the bail A terminates in a section of a cone, through which a circularopening, B, is formed, for the spindle to pass through.
Iivoted to the upper portion of the bail, at a u, is an auxiliary bail, C, provided with bent arms, DD, provided at their lowerextremities with the set-screws b 6, by which the Aamount of oscillation of theauxiliary bail,
on the fhnil A, may be adjusted.
By this arrangement for hanging the running-stones, I am enabled to relieve the jarring and trembling of the same, caused by the ordinary manuerof hanging, when it may occur that the hed-stone is not perfectlylevcl,
, or if the spindle is not properly adj-usted, or for any other reason.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, `and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved adjustable millstonehanging device, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
PETER Z'IMMERMAN.
