SAW-HANDLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1905.
Application filed December 15, 1904. Serial No. 236,929.
To 0 whom it 77716)] concern.-
Be it known that I, OLEY CHRISTIAN HAN- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldtand State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Handles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to an improvement in saw-handles.
The object of the invention is to produce a handle for saws, particularly lumbermens cross-cut saws, which will more efficiently and securely be held upon the saw-blade; and to this end the invention consists in the saw-handle hereinafter described, and particularly delined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred invention, Figure l is a side elevation of the saw-handle. Fig. 2 is a side elevation looking from the opposite side. Fig. 3 is a sectional end view showing the blade of the saw and the plate of the saw-handle in section, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the handle.
The illustrated embodiment of the invention is described as follows: The bracket 1 is provided with the usual handle 2 and with a plate 3, which engages one face of the sawblade. The plate 3 is provided upon one end with a bolt-boss 4:, which is adapted to engage the back of the saw-blade and to project beyond the same and to receive in a hole provided in ita bolt, hereinafter referred to. The plate 3 is also provided witha bolt-head slot 5 in the opposite end of the plate from that to which the bolt-boss is attached. The bolt 6 engages the opposite face of the saw-blade from the plate 3, and its head is bent at right angles to its body and passes between two teeth of the saw and enters the bolt-head slot 5. The shank of the bolt 6 extends through the hole in the bolt-boss i and receives upon its end the wing-nut 8, by which the handle is secured to the blade. The plate 3 is preferably provided with ribs 9, which strengthen the plate without materially increasing its Weight.
It will be observed that the saw-handlemay be readily removed when it is desired to sharpen the saw and as readily again attached thereto, that as the saw-blade gradually wears away with the sharpening of the saw the bolthead 7 enters farther into the bolt-head slot 5, and that at all times the saw-handle is securely and rigidly attached to the saw-blade, so that any slight rocking of the bracket upon the saw-blade is prevented and the bolt is thereby prevented from being gradually loosened in use.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment thereof illustrated in the drawings and specifically described herein, but may be embodied in other and different forms within the scope of the following claims.
I claim- 1. A saw-handle, having, in combination, a bracket and a bolt; said bracket having a handle-socket and a plate engaging one face of the saw-blade, said plate being provided with a bolt-head slot, and the bolt on the other face of the saw-blade and having its head bent at right angles to its body and engaging the slot in the plate, the said plate and bolt thereby embracing the sawblade and securely holding the bracket to the blade substantially as described.
9.. A saw-l'landle, having, in combination, a bracket and a bolt; said bracket having a handle-socket and a plate engaging one face of the saw-blade, said plate being provided with a bolt-head slot and a bolt-boss projected at right angles from the plate and engaging the back of the saw-blade, and the bolt having its head bent at right angles to its body and engaging the slot in the plate, its shank extending along the opposite face of the sawblade and through the bolt-boss, the two parts affording means for securely holding the bracket to the blade, substantially as de scribed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OLEY CHRISTIAN HANSON. l/Vitnesses:
