ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: v Be it known that LEZRA 13. LAKE, of Bridgeport, Gloucester county, New Jersey, have invented an Improved Fender; and I do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the same.

My invention consists ot a fender, composed of a. strip of wood and vertical and trunsverse'rollers, arranged as fully described hereafter, so its to revolvefreely when the fender issplaced between two moiring-cbicts, the abrasion of the said objects, by' contact with ezich other or with the fender, being thus prevented. In order to enebleothers skilled in the art to make and use my.i nvention,'-I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, reference being bad tothe acconipanying drcwing, .which forms a' part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a. front view of nay improved fender.

The mein portion'of the fender consists of a. strip, A, of wood, in the front face of which is a. groove or channel, a, bounded byri-bs b b, as best observed on reference to fig. 3, l

At'each end of this wooden strip is secured aplate,'B ,..portions d cl 'of each of which project to the rear of the strip, and serve as bearings for the vertical rollers D D.

The fender terminates at the top in a. projection, it, through on eye, in which is passed the rope for suspending the fender from a. vessel, or from a wharf adjacent to'which the vessel is moored.

The interposition of one or more of these fenders between the wharf and tlie vessel prevents injury to either when the vessel surges, as either the vertical or trsnsverse rollers will rcvclve'treely, according to the direction in which the vessel moves; and if the fenders. be suspended between two adjacent vessels, the abrasion which would otherwise take place is obviated. l' I I claim its my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The within-described fender, composed of a strip .of wood and of vertical and trsnsverse rollers, the whole being constructed and arranged substn'ntizillyns and for the purpose herein set forth.
