Description

0. 3. BROWN. Jr.
, Soap Cutter No. 79.102. Patented June 23,1868.
UNITED STATES DAVID S. BROWN, JR.
PATENT OFFICE.
,OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 79,102, dated June 2, 1868.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID S. BROWN, Jr., of the city and county of New York, State of New York, have invented a new and improved machine for cutting slabs of soap into bars and stamping the bars after being cut; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved soap cutting and stamping machine. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
To enable others skilled in the art to make my improved machine, I will proceed to describe the parts thereof and the manner of usin g it.
Ais a table or bench. B B are arms connected with a bar, B, and racks O O. G G are dovetailed guides to the racks O. I) is a cog-wheel secured on the shaft E, of which there are one each fitted to the racks O G. F is a handle to the shaft E. H is a frame upon which the wires or a a are stretched. b b are thumb-pegs to tighten the wires a a. I is a frame which carries the stamping-bar d, the operating parts of which are the bar 6, springf, togglejoint arms 9 g g 9, rod 2', and lever h. The lever h is pivoted at j. The frames H and I are secured to the table or bench A by means of screws or bolts. 0 c c are stamps which are secured to the bar (I.
The operation of the machine is thus After the soap has been cut into slabs of the required thickness the bar B is extended back toward the edge of the-top of the bench, and one of the slabs is placed in position in front of the bar B, when, by turning the crank-handle F, the soap is forced through the frame H (by means of the cog-wheels D, racks O, and bar B) and cut into bars by the wires to a a. After the slab of soap has been cut into bars by being forced through the wired frameH the bars will pass under theframe I,when, bypressing down the lever h, the whole of the bars will be marked by the stamps c 0 c at one operation. After releasing the pressure from the lever h the spring f will draw the .bar 0 back, and thereby release the stamps c from the bars of soap, when they are removed and the operation of cutting and stamping continued.
My improved cutting and stamping machine will work rapidly, efficiently, and economically.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim. and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The combination and arrangement of the bar B, arms B B, racks 0, wheels D, shaft E, wire'frame H, and bench A, the whole being made and operated as shown and described.
2. The arrangement on the frame I of the stamping-bar d, stamps c c c, toggle-jointed bar 6, and lever h, for the purpose of stamping a number of bars of soap simultaneously, the whole being made as shown and described.
3. The combination and arrangement of the soap cutting and stamping devices herein shown and described.
