TIME STOCK-FEEDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 790,835, dated. May 23, 1905. Application filed December 5, 1904. Serial No. 235,573.
To all whom it Wm/y concern;
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM BATEMAN HAYES, surgeon, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 16 Denny street, Tralee, in the county of Kerry, Ireland, have invented a new and useful Feeder for Horses and other Cattle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for automatically supplying food to horses and other cattle at any desired time, thereby avoiding the necessity of attendance on the part of stablemen or other employees.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate this invention, Figure 1 is a view in front elevation. Fig. 2 is a view in sectional elevation on line a; w of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a view in plan.
Throughout the views similar parts are marked with like letters of reference.
The apparatus consists, essentially, of a receptacle A, adapted to be filled with fodder and connected with the mangers or their equivalents by suitable chutes. This receptacle has a hole in its bottom closed by a hinged door B, which is retained in its normal position to close the hole in the bottom of the receptacle by means of a catch-lever C, pivoted to the face of the box. This catchlcver is retained in its operative position to keep the door 6 closed by means of a trip-lever D, hinged to the box A at right angles to the plane of movement of the catch-lever C. The trip-lever D is pressed upward to remain in its locking position by means of a spring E, its movement in either direction being limited by stops d d. The lever D is depressed to release the catch-lever C by means of a finger F, carried by the winder g of the alarm mechanism of a clock G or by any suitable clockwork mechanism arranged to be operative at any predetermined time. When the catch O is released, the door B falls open by gravity, thus allowing the fodder contained in said receptacle to pass out of it into the chute or its equivalent leading to the manger or the like. A handle, such as H, is provided to enable the door B to be restored to its normal position.
What I claim, and desire to protect by Letters, Patent, is
In an automatic feeder, the combination of a receptacle to receive the fodder, a hinged door in the bottom thereof opening downward, a catch-lever pivoted to the outside of the receptacle at the opposite side to that at which the door is hinged and engaging the door so as to retain it in its closed position, a trip-lever pivoted to the side of the receptacle and engaging the catch-lever so as to retain it in its locking position,'a spring pressing the trip-lever into engagement with the catch-lever, stops on the face of the receptacle to limit the movement of the trip-lever, a clock having an alarm mechanism operative at a predetermined time, a finger carried by said alarm mechanism and operating the triplever to release the catch-lever, and means for lifting the door to close the hole in the bottom of the receptacle, as set forth.
