PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,083, dated May 16, 1905. Application filed September 6, 1904:. Serial No. 223,455.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that -I, JosEPH B. Snonnof Newark, in the county of Essex, in the State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pins, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full. clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in pins which are adapted more particularly to support abadge, ticket, or price-list, and when used as a badge may be attached or inserted in the lapel of the coat or other apparel, and
when used as a ticket or price-card holder may be inserted in any fabric or soft material.
The object of this invention is to produce a pin so constructed that a badge, sample-ticket, or card may be readily secured thereto, cheap and durable in construction, and of great utility; and to that end my invention consists in the several new and novel features of construction hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claims hereunto annexed.
It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a view of a sample-card secured within the eye of the pin. Fig. 2shows a side View thereof, the card in cross-section.
The pin is constructed with the usual shank a, terminating at a point at its lower end and its upper end bent to'form an eye I) and terminating in a head 0, the outer face of the 'head 0 lying at a slightly-oblique angle, as
shown in Fig. 2, for the set forth.
d is a badge, ticket, or price-card which is adapted to be held and carried by-the' pin and purposes hereinafter which is pierced by the sharp point of the shank a near the periphery thereof and then drawn along said shank so that it passes between the head 0 and the shank and then is thrown over to the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. .It will thus be observed that the factof the head lying at an oblique angle to the shank permits of the card being drawn up into the angle and forces the head sufficiently out to permit of the ticket pass ing around into the eye, while, on the other hand, the fact that the upper edge of the head lies closer to the shank prevents the ticket from working its way into a position which will enable it to be readily drawn down through the narrow space between the head and the shank. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A badge comprising a pin having the upper portion thereof bent to form an eye and terminating in a head, and a card perforated adjacent its periphery by the shank and drawn into the eye and suspended thereon in front of said head for the purposes specified.
2. A badge, comprising a headed and pointed pin having a circular eye formed at its headed end, and a card pierced near its periphery for the passage ,of the pin andsuspended on the lower part of the eye in front of said head.
{In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of August, 1904.
JOSEPH B. SHORT.
