)N v1: HTOR WITNESSIE:
NTTED STATES Patented May 9, 1905 ANSON L. SONN, OFUPPER TROY, NEW YORK.
BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 789,178, dated May 9, 1905.
Application filed June 10, 1903. Serial No. 160,859.
To all whom, it nuty concern:
Be it known that I, ANsoN L. SoNN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Upper Troy, Rensselaer county, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of'which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to brushes; and the object of my invention is to produce a brush so arranged that the bristles are secured in the body of the brush in a positive and substantial manner. I attain this object by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective View of my brush. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section along the lines X X on Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My brush-back A is provided with a recess for the purpose of receiving the composition E. The bristles B are placed into suitable openings in the plate C, which plate has along its edge a downwardly-projecting flange D. After the bristles have been placed in the plate 0 the plate C containing the bristles is placed on the brush-back A and pressure applied thereto, when the plate will be forced in contact with the composition. The flange D will be pressed into the brush-back between the outer edge thereof and the edge of the recess, thus holding the plate and bristles securely and positively in contact with the brushback.
1 thus provide a neat and serviceable brush. The plate may be made of aluminium or other light metal or celluloid, and being secured, as it is, to the brush-back by means of the flange, as well as by the adhesion of the composition or cement, the parts of the brush are held securely together.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a brush-back provided with a recess; a plate having openings for bristles and having a flange around its edge; composition in said recess, the bristles being embedded in the composition and passing through openings in said plate; the flange on said plate being embedded in the brush-back between the outer edge thereof and the edge of said recess, substantially as described.
Signed at Albany, New York, this 29th day of May, 1903.
