CARL DELLMANN, OF DSSELDORF, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM OF DSSELDORFER KRAHNBAUGESELLSOHAFT LlEBE-HARKORT Gr.
B. H., OF DSSELDORF, GERMANY.
DREDGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,891, dated May 2, 1905.
Application led September Z8, 1904. Serial No. 226,368.
To 1J/Z whom 7115 71u07/ concern:
Be it known that I, CARL DELLMANN, en-
gineer, a subject ot' the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and a resident of Schtzen- 5 strasse, Dsseldorf, in the Province of the Rhine, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dredgers, of which the following is an exact speciiication.
O My invention relates to a turning-scoop dredger or self-gripper, and more especially to a new construction oi' the block and tackle for opening and closing the scoops. In the constructions hitherto used this block and 5 tackle consists in most cases oi' two halves symmetrically arranged to the scoop middle, the chain parts ot' which are connected to the chain for opening and closing by means of a ClOSS-Fl` When this nrnQQ-iir'nfr wurm nnrm O the chain-roller, shocks arise, which, however, will be avoided by my present invention. For this purpose I employ a block and tackle with one chain only.
My invention consists therein that the block-and-tackle rollers being in the middle plane vertically to the direction of the scoop movement are so arranged that the first and the second vertical chain part are situated at both ends of the traverse for closing the scoops,
O and it further chain parts are present the same are arranged right and left hand to the gripper middle.
In order to make my invention more clear, I refer to the accompanying drawings, in
5 which- Figure 1 is a front view of a convenient form of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side View olE the same.
In the drawings, Z represents scoops turning D around the trunnions or pivots q.
a is the scoop-frame.
71 is a traverse moving up and down within the scoop-frame. The scoops Z are connected to the traverse b by means of joint-rods c.
g /z/ ml are rollers mounted upon the scoopframe, whereas z' 7n a are rollers mounted upon the traverse j is a chain which is guided in such a manner around the rollers mentioned that the iirst and the second vertical chain part e are situated at both ends of the scoop. The third and fourth chain parts, however, are arranged on the right and left side to the gripper middle, as shown in the drawings.
In arrangements in which further chain parts should be arranged the saine would be guided in a corresponding manner. The end of the chain f is fastened to the scoop-frame c at o.
The closing ot the scoops is eected by rack- 6o ing the chain f. Thereby the traverse is moved upward within the frame a, so that the scoop ends approach each other. For opening` the scoops a chain s is provided, which is held fast for this purpose, and then the chain f is loosened, so that the scoop ends remove from nlm lav w 111' "un nd-ls present construction of block and tackle two successive chain parts are arranged at different sides to the scoop middle, it can be ob- 7o tained that the resultant of all the chain-traction forces is in the middle of the gripper, so that the traverse cannot get oblique, whereby a good working of the arrangement is obtained, so that the apparatus cannot get out of order.
Having thus i'ully described the nature of my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. In a turning-scoop dredger, the combination of a frame, scoops pivotally mounted in this frame, with a traverse for closing the scoops, means for connecting' the traverse to the scoops, a set of rollers mounted on the frame, a second set of rollers mounted on the traverse, a chain led around the rollers and secured with one end to the frame, the rollers being so arranged in the middle plane vertical to the direction of the turning movement ot' the scoops, that the lirst and the second 90 vertical chain part are at both ends oi' the traverse, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a turning-scoop dredger, the combination of a frame, scoops pivotally mounted on the frame, with a traverse for closing the A n 3.,. W."
IO chain part are at both ends of the traverse` and the other chain parts are so arranged that the resultant of all the chain-traction forces is in the middle of the dredger, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In Witness Whereoil I have hereunto set my I5 hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
CARL DELLMANN. itnessesz PETER LIEBER, WILLIAM ESSENWEIN.
