Description

No. 787,470. PATENTED APR. 18, 1905.
G. B. ROSS. DEVIGE FOR CLEANING OOMBS.
APPLICATION FILED D30. 20, 1904.
UNITED STATES Patented April 18, 1905.
PATENT CEEICE,
DEVICE FOR CLEANING COIVIBS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Pa o- 787,470, dated. April 18, 1905.
Application filed December 20, 1904. Serial No. 237,713. I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. Ross, a citizen of the United States, residing at Parma, in the county of Canyon and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Cleaning Combs; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in comb-cleaning devices; and to thisend the same consists in the various details of construction which will be hereinafter fully described, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved comb-cleaning device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view centrally through the combcleaner, and Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the two parts forming the frame of the device separated. Fig. 4c is a detail View of a part of the invention.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A and A designate the two extensible sections of the device, each of which has an L-shaped end a, and each end is provided with a series of apertures a, the corresponding ends of which are enlarged to receive a knot in the end of a wire, while a portion of each aperture is contracted to receive the wire or thread and so shaped as to prevent the end of the wire pulling through to the end thereof and at right angles to the shank portion of said piece A and is similar to the plate B, referred to, and has an angled end F, which is perforated to receive the ends of the wires or strings D. The shank portion of the section A has two elongated slots K formed therein, and the extensible piece A is provided with lugs N, having heads, said lugs passing through said slots and adapted to limit the longitudinal movements of said pieces. A lugQ, projects from the end of the piece A and is provided with a threaded aperture adapted to receive the threaded screw R, which is carried .by the handle R. A collar T is fitted upon said screw and is adapted to bear against the angled end of the section A, said screw passing through registering apertures in the angled end of the plate A and the plate B, as shown in the sectional view of the drawings. The angled end of the piece A has an angled brace 0, provided for the purpose of reinforcing the end against extensible strain that may come upon the same.
From the foregoing it will be observed that by the provision of the device embodying the features of my invention means is provided for holding strings of different sizes taut and so arranged that a plurality of teeth of a comb may be cleaned at once by drawing the device between the teeth, as will be readily understood. When it is desired to replace the strings or wires, the extensible members may be operated to slacken the wires and replace the same, as may be desired.
While I have shown a particular form of apparatus illustrating my comb-cleaning device, it will be understood that I may vary the details of construction of the same, if desired, without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A comb-cleaning device comprising two extensible members, one of which is provided with lugs and the other with slots to receive said lugs, wires connecting the angled ends of said members, plates, one secured to each of said members at right angles to the shank portion of each member provided each with an angled end which is perforated, wires secured in said perforations, a lug projecting from one of the members and provided with a threaded aperture, a screw passing through the lug and through the end of one of said members and the plate secured thereto, a handle on which said screw is mounted, and a collar on the shank portion of the screw adapted to bear against one end of one of said mem- I0 hers, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES B. ROSS.
