PATENT QFFICE.
ABBOT AUGUSTUS LOW, OF HORSESHOE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE AUTO STOPPER COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE MOUTH AND NECK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,013, dated March 14, 1905,
Application filed June 28, 1904. Serial No. 214,501. 7
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ABBoT AUGUSTUS Low, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Horseshoe, in the county of St. Lawrence and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Months and Necks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to vessel mouths and necks; and it consists in certain elements in combination, fully set forth and claimed in the following specification.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may understand, construct, and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of a bottle and cap, showing my invention. The Vessel being of glass, the shape of the inner bore of the bottle is seen plainly delineated. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section of the same with a stopper resting in the mouth of the bottle beneath the retaining-cap after being entered in the bottle-mouth and compressed into the shape shown. Fig. 3 is a top view of the bottle-mouth, showing my invention, the cap and stopper being removed.
A is the body of the bottle.
B is the bottle-neck.
O is the cap, locked to the bottle by indents in the cap-flange entered through slots to take under a bead on the outer circumference of the bottle-neck in a well-known manner.
D is the inner bore of the bottle-neck at its top.
E is the inner bore of the bottle-neck at a distance below the part D.
Fis a taper bore located between parts D and E and joins the two.
G is a stopper of compressible material entered' in the bottle-neck in parts D, F, and E.
The stopper is of about the diameter of part D before being entered in the bottle-bore, and it is compressed in passing through part F to the size' of part E, thus when fully entered fitting closely all the parts D, F, and E and insuring a tightness throughout the whole of this part of the bottle-bore. The cap O holds the stopper firmly against the pressure from the contents of the vessel.
The taper portion E serves to guide the stopper easily and smoothly from the larger bore D into the smaller bore E.
Having now fully described my invention and the manner in which I have embodied it, what I claim as new and as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A vessel neck and mouth constructed substantially as specified and shown, with a circumferential head on its exterior at its top,
