WILLIAM KRETER AND CHARLES KRETER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PIANISSIIVIO DEVICE FOR PEANU-ACTEONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,005, dated Iriarch 14, 1905.
Application filed October 13, 1904. Serial N0v 228,375.
To {I/N/ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, VVILLIAM Kn ETE'R and CHARLES KRETEE, citizens of the United States, residing at l\ Ianhattan, city and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pianissimo Devices for Piano-Actions, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to a pianissimo device ior piano-actions which is simple of construction, readily accessible, and permits of ready adjustment.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a piano-action embodying this invention. Fig. 2 shows the parts of Fig. 1 in pianissimo or soft position. Fig. 3 shows a modification.
The letter (t represents a key, and b is the capstan screw or device. To a rail or fixed point 0 is pivoted a link 0, also pivoted to the sticker or abstract 6. The elbow-piece (l is shown interposed between the capstan-screw and the abstract.
The elbow-piece cl is shown with a recess or socket into which the abstract can sit. This socket or seat retains the abstract in proper position relative to the elbow-piece (Z, so that while the parts can be separated or lifted apart and reassembled, yet the abstract and elbow piece cannot shi'i't accidentally. hen the key lifts the elbow-piece (Z, the latter raises the abstract and actuates the wippen f and also the jack and hammer, as shown.
The elbow-piece is shown jointed at g/ to a lever or finger g, having pivot connection g with the abstract or action and resting upon transverse rod h. The rod 7b is connected by link in with hammer-rail 7:, and when the rail is moved by soft-pedal rod 0 to pianissimo position the rod h swings the linger g about pivot g and lifts the abstract, as seen in Fig. 2, to compensate the action or maintain the relative position of the jack to the hammer.
The red It by links 7' is connected or jointed to a suitable part of the frame or a rail. The set-screws 1) allow adjustment of parts as required.
In Fig. 3 the elbow-piece (Z has its pivot connection 9 at the front or opposite side of the abstract as compared with Fig. 1. The abstract, as seen, has a link a pivoted to a fixed point and maintaining the abstract in alinement or proper position. The elbow-piece is linked to the abstract, but is detached or freely movable with respect to the 2tCl)i()ll** that is, said elbow-piece is loose or has no lixcd fulcrum or pivot. The foot or bottom portion of said elbow-piece being supported on the capstan screw or device rises or moves with the key, and the fulcrum or pivot y partakes of the rise and tall. The link Z% is shown adjustabl y connected to the hammer-rail, so that the parts can be set as required.
\Vhat we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A pianissimo device for piano-actions composed of a key, a capstan device, an elbowpiece having a foot that is supported upon the capstan device, and a lever pivoted to the elbow-piece and operatively connected to the action, substantially as specified.
2. A pianissimo device for piano-actions composed of a key, a capstan device, an elbowpiece having a foot that is supported upon the capstan, a lever pivoted to the elbow-piece, an abstract pivoted to the lever, and means for operating the lever, substantially as speeilied.
S. A pianissimo device for piano-actions composed of a key, a capstan device, an el bowpiece having a foot that is supported upon the capstan device, a lever pivoted to the elbowpiece, an abstract pivoted to the lever, a transverse rod engaging the lever, a hammerrail, and a hanger which is adj ustably secured to the hammer-rail and to the transverse rod, substantially as speeilicd.
a. A pianissimo device comprising a key, a capstan device, an elbow-piece supported on the capstan device, a compensator-lever pivoted to the elbow-piece, an abstract pivoted to the lever, a link for guiding the abstract, and means for operating the lever.
5. A pianissimo device comprising a key, a capstan device, an elbow-piece on the capstan device, and an abstract linked to the elbow-piece, said elbow-piece having a socket or seat for retaining the abstract.
6. A pianissimo device comprising a key, a capstan device, an elbow-piece on the capstan device, and an abstract, said elbow-piece I00 In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing 10 i Witnesses. \VILLIAM KRETER. CHARLES KRETER. \Vitnesses:
