ANNI WVENNERNTROM, OF NElV YORK, N. Y.
GIHWULEM SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. "783,558, dated February 28, 1905.,
Application filed May 31, 1904. Serial No. 210,350.
To rn/Z Iv/tom if; 'lrmy cancer/t:
Be it known that], ANNI vvnwuni-is'raon, a citizen of the Unlted States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and- State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lm 'irovements in (:iirdles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in girdles as used with shirt-waists or other like garments; and the object of my improvement is to provide a girdle-shield with series of projections to form receptacles for the folds of said garments. i attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front view of a part of a wo- Inans ligure provided with my girdle. Fig. 2 is a front view of a girdle. Fig. 3 is a side view of same. Fig. 4- is a top view of said girdle. Fig. 5 is a rear view of same.
Similar letters refer to similar parts througlr out the several views.
The concave-convex-shaped girdle-shield A is provided with perforations G U at the ends to receive a tape U. The inner face of said shield A has a series of projections B B, projecting inwardly and spaced equal distances apart, said projections being of consecutivelydiminishing lengths as they extend from the center toward the ends of said shield, forming spaces for the reception of the folds of a garment. A band B, of metal or other suitable material, may be adopted as bearer of said projections B B and secured to the inner face of the shield A by means of rivets soldered thereon, or any other device more convenient for this purpose may be adopted.
The projections B B can be of any desired shape or form, but have to project inwardly and spaced equal distances apart. Sai d projections have to diminish in lengths as they oxtend from the center toward the ends of said shield A, forming spaces for the reception of the folds of a gari'nent.
The girdle as described may be worn inside of a shirt-waist or other like garment, which will facilitate an arranging of its folds to a so-called decided tip. hen the girdle is worn outside of said garments, the folds of the latter may extend through the receptacles on inner face of the girdle, which will facilitate a perfect litting of said garment on any woman, if narrow or wide around her waist.
The girdle may be worn with a garment of any color by covering said girdle with a ribbon correspolniing in color with the garment with which it is to be worn.
\V hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a girdle, a shield having a concavoconvex surface and provided with perforations at the ends to receive a tape, the inner face of said shield having a series of projections, projecting inwardly and spaced equal distances apart, said projections being of consecutively diminishing lengths as they extend from the center toward the ends of said shield, :iorming spaces for the reception of the folds of a garment, substantially as described.
2. In a girdle, a shield having a concavoconvex surface and provided with perforations at the ends to receive a tape, a band secured to the inner face of the shield having a series of projections, projecting inwardly and spaced equal distances apart, said projections being of consecutively-diminishing lengths, as they extend from the center toward the ends of said shield, forming spaces for the reception of the folds of a garment, all substantially as set forth.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 28th day of May, A. D. 1904.
