NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 783,265, dated February 21, 1905.
Application filed October 1'7, 1903. Renewed anuary 20,1905. Serial No. 242,002.
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE ARTHER HAR- GREAvns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bottles,-and has for its object the production of a new and useful device of this character which cannot be refilled after its original contents have been withdrawn and which will be simple and cheap, yet durable and efficient, positive in action, and composed of few parts so arranged as not to be liable to become inoperative.
The invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred form of my invention,
' drical extension 3, the latter being situated spherical in contour and is constructed from.
glass or other non-corrosive material.
The neck 2 is provided at a point above the valve-seat with diametrically-opposed and inwardly-projecting flanges 7, having their extremities recessed, as at 8. A guard 9 is provided with laterally-projecting lugs 10, adapted to be received by the recesses 8 to support the guard within the neck above the valveseat. The guard is semispherical in contour, and its arrangement above the valve-seat provides an approximately spherical valve-chamber 11, which is adapted to contain the valve, that it may have sufficient movement to be seated and unseated without liability of becoming inoperative. The horizontal diameter of the guard is sufliciently large to cover the entrance to the port 3 to prevent the insertion of ah instrument in the valve-seat in an attempt to prevent the reseating of the valve. The edge of the guard is inwardly and upwardly inclined, as at 12, to provide the cavity of the guard with a flaring entrance, which facilitates the reception of the valve by that portion of the valve-chamber formed by the guard; A cork 13 is placed within the upper portion of the neck to preserve the contents of the bottle.
It is apparent that the arrangement of the guard above the valve-seat prevents an instrument from being inserted into the valveseat in attempt to prevent the reseating of the valve and also prevents the bottle from being refilled by placing liquid in the neck of the bottle and attempting to direct it into the interior of the bottle by shaking the bottle, as the guard will during such operation form a spray, throwing the liquid from the center of the neck instead of toward the center or valve-seat.
In order to fill the bottle after the valve and 1 guard have been inserted in applied position, I secure to the valve a wire which is adapted to pass up through the neck to enable the operator to unseat the valve. After the bottle has been filled the wire may be disconnected from the valve to permit it to seat to forever prevent the refilling of the bottle.
The guard may be secured in applied position by securing the lugs in the recesses by means of cement or fusion.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A device of the characterdescribed, comprising a bottle provided with a valve-seat,
flanges arranged above the valve-seat, a guard secured to the flanges, and a valve interposed between the guard and valve-seat.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a-bottle having an extension arranged within its neck and provided with a valveseat, flanges on the interior of the neck, a
within the neck and above the valve-seat, a
guard provided with lugsto engage the flanges to support the guard above the valve-seat to provide a valve-chamber, and a valve mounted Within the chamber.
5. A device of the character described, comprising a bottle having a cylindrical extension arranged within its neck and provided with a valve-seat, flanges arranged within the neck above the valve-seat and provided with recesses, a semispherical guard provided with lugs adapted to be received by the recesses to support the guard above the valve-seat to provide a valve-chamber, said guard having 4 its edges tapered, and a valve mounted within the chamber.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
