PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST R. LE MANQUAIS, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y., ASSIG-NOR TO LE MAN- QUAIS ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF RARITAN, NEIV JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEIV JERSEY.
CONNECTION- BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,255, dated February 14, 1905,
Application filed January 15, 1904.
To all whom it may concern/.
Be it known that I,EENEs'r R. LE MAxoUAIs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn,
in the county of Kings and State of New York,
have invented a new and Improved Connection-Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an outlet junction,
IO cut out,or connection-box for electrical wiring intended especially for buildings.
The principal object of the invention is to form the box so that it may be constructed of parts which when kept continually on hand 5 may be assembled two or more together to form a box of any size. This enables a con tractor to quickly, cheaply. and conveniently assemble a box of the precise size necessary to the particular job in hand.
This specification is an exact description of one example of my invention, while the claims define the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
5 in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a front elevation of the box with the door open. Fig. Qis a side elevation with parts broken away, and Fig. 3 is a section on 3 the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The front plate a is formed in different sizes to suit the size of the box to be assembled, and it has an opening a, covered by ahinged door 6, fitted, if desired, with a lock 0.
3 5 The body of the box is formed of end sections (Z and intermediate sections 6. According to the assemblage shown in the drawings there is one intermediate section. It is clear, however, that by fitting other intermediate 4 sections alongside of the section (1 the length of the box may be continued as much as desired, the proper-sized front plate a being fitted to suit the size of the box, aswill be understood.
4; The sections d and e have flanges (Z and e. As here shown, the flanges d of the sections (Z are fastened by screws f or the like to the front plate a. If desired, the flanges 0 may Serial No. 189,120.
be similarly fastened, but this is not regarded as essential. The flanges (Z and e have over- 5 lapping portions, (indicated at g, and through these overlapping portions bolts or other fastenings g are passed, thus securely connecting the sections (Z and 0 together. Said sections have at their side and back walls flanges d and 0 respectively, which flanges overlap the adjacent edges of the contiguous sections, so as to form a snug connection. Bolts '11 are arranged at the back of the box and pass between said flanges c and the section a.
It will be observed that this construction forms a strong box which may be assembled quickly, and according to the number of sections employed its size may be varied at will. The contractor need only keep in stock the 5 various sections (Z and a and the front plates (0 in different sizes according to the varying sizes of the boxes which may be employed.
In Figs. 1 and 2 I have shown the panelboard in place within the box, and this board 7 is formed, preferably, of sections 71), which correspond with the sections (Z and 0, being socured in place by screws I as shown. The panel-boards may be of any desired construction and may, in fact, be formed with a single 75 integral bed, if so desired. The sections (Z and c are formed with the usual openings (Z and 6 through which the connections are made with the panel-board in the usual manner. The letter Z in Fig. 2 indicates one section of the usual tubes which are secured in these openings (1" and c to carry the wires.
Various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of my invention may be resorted to at will without departing from the 5 spirit and scope thereof. Hence I consider myself entitled to all such variations as may lie within the intent of my claims. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 9 1. A box, comprising a front plate and a body fastened thereto, the latter being formed of end sections, an intermediate section fitted between the end sections, and means for fastening the sections together, the said end sections comprising end, back and side walls and the intermediate section comprising side and back walls.
2. A box, comprising a front plate and a body fastened thereto, the latter being formed of end sections, an intermediate section fitted between the end sections, and means for fastening the sections together, said end and intermediate sections having flanges lying against the front plate and the said flanges having overlapping portions and fastenings passed through the same.
3. A connection-box, comprising a front plate, a body made up of end and intermediate sections fastened together, and a panelboard formed of sections fastened respectively to the sections of the body of the box.
4. A connection-box, comprising end sections, an intermediate section fitted between the two, and means for fastening said sections together, the end sections having side, back and end walls, and the intermediate section having side and back walls.
5. A box comprising a front plate with an opening therein, and a body formed of a plurality of sections, said sections being engaged together and each section being engaged with and secured to the front plate.
6. A box comprising a front plate with an opening therein, and a body formed of a plurality of sections, said sections being engaged together and each section being engaged with and secured to the front plate, and a removable closure for said opening in the front plate.
7. The combination of a sectional box and a sectional panel-board, the sections of the box being fastened together and the sections of the panel-board corresponding respectively to the box-sections and being fastened to said sections.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNEST R. LE MANQUAIS.
