BLADE FOR TURBINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 781,940, dated February '7', 1905. Application filed July 29, 1903. Serial No. 167,471.
To 1!, whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, VICTOR German and PAUL KUGEL, citizens of the Swiss Confederacy, and residents of Zurich, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blades for Turbines, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specilication.
()ur invention relates to securing of blades to turbines, and is shown in this application as applied to radially-driven steam or gas turbines.
The accompanying drawings form part of this application, wherein like characters of referencedesignate like parts throughmit the several views.
Figure I is a section axially through the Fig. 2 is a radial section through the blades, to the left through the inlet-blades and to the right through the discharge-blades. Fig. 3 shows the working-wheel inlet-blades; Fig. I, the working-wheel discharge-blades. Fig. 5 shows the distance-pieces, to the left between the working-wheel inlet-blades and to the right between the working-wheel discharge-blades.

The guidewhcel and working wheel are composed of wheel-bodies and I! and rings w, between which the individual blades (I e and f 4/ are held.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the individual hlades consist of prismatic pieces, which in section show a sectional view of the blades. At the ends of the individual blades are shoulders /1 1', Figs. 3 and 4:, which engage in the retaining-rings c c. Between each two of the shoulders at distance-piece I or I is provided, which is on the other side formed as a retaining-piece and centers in the turn of the rings 0 c.

For the other form of blade (shown in Fig. at) the projection or shoulder is bounded by lines 5, 6, T, and while the distancepiece for this shoulder is shown at the right of Fig. 5, the edge 9 being adapted to bear against the side 5 of the shoulder of one blade, while the edge ll) bears against the side 7 of the adjacent blades, as indicated in Fig. 2.
It is not essential to my invention that the shoulders have any particular form. For certain cases, Fig. 6, it would be advisable to give the shoulders the form of the blade-sections, in which case the distance'pieccs would also be formed like the bhulc-sections.
The advantage of this invention is readily apparent. It consists in that the individual blades and also the distance-pieces may be made of rolled, drawn, or cast rods and cut out therefrom.
In the form shown in Fig. T the blade is provided at its front end with shoulders in the form of round or prismatic tappets m, which lit into corresponding openings of the rings c and c. In this manner of securing the blades the latter may also be cutout of prismatic rods having the sectional form of the blade.
\Ye do not limit ourselves to the feature of forming the dislance-pieces separately from each other, as said pieces may be combined into a continuous ring having openings or recesses therein.
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is----- 1. In combination in a turbine having an annular recess, blades having on both sides projections and distance means litting in the recess of the turbine and having recesses to receive the projections, substantially as described.
