- Be it known that I,.JOHN MILnoLLaD, '0f New ConcorrL'in-the county of Muskingum, and Stateof Ohio, have invented a new and improved Horse Hay-Fork; and-I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,

and exact description thereof, which will enable others'skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference bein-g had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention relates to an improved horse hay-fork, and 'consists of an adjustment ofthe' trip-cord by means of a trigger and of tho handle, whereby the handle is protected'by the Vside of the eye when the fork is loaded, and the point kept .straight when the fork is to be returned.,.

In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is aside view of my improved fork when loaded and about to carryits load.

Figure 2 is a front view, the red lines showing the position of the fork whendepositing its load or being returned.

The handle C -falls (when the fork is loaded) below the eye D, which serves to protect it from a blow, which lmight throw open the fork and discharge the load. .Y P i Y P bar.` The handle terminates in two' arms, which embrace thestud c, (firmly attached to the shaft A,) and are F'j' is a trigger, in form of a bent lever, havingiits fulcrum on the'pivot or. pin e, 4".lhe trip-cord X is attached to thqend of Athe arm o`f the trigger, and passes over the stud c through a hole in the shaft A.

To work the fork, plaeeit in the position d', fig. 2, press it into the hay, and lower the handle, whereby the fork is drawn up into the position a, The load is raised'in place, the trigger pulled upon by the cord X, thereby pressing the nrmf against the shaft A, and slightly raising the handle C, when the weight of the load forces the 'fork open, and the load is discharged, and the fork returned in the position a', avoiding all risk of its catching in the hay and dragging it from its place of deposit, as o'ftcn happens with the ordinary'forks now in use.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
