Be it known that I, J. O. BELKNAP, of the city and county of Mobile, and State oi' Alabama, have invented a new and improved Device for Propelling Pleasure-Boats; and I do hereby declarevthat the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation.

Figure 2 is a top view.

Figure 3 is a detached view of the upper end of the standard C.

This invention is a v neat and ornamental apparatus for moving pleasure-boats in' a circle around a. central standard, 4by means of horse-power. D l

In the drawings, A represents a circular or polygonal wharf, surrounded on all sides by water, and provided with a railing, B, around it. At the centre ofthe wharf rises a stout standard, C, having a pin or gudgeen, c, in its upper end. This standard supports a frame, consisting of two horizontal crossed beams, D D', which frame rotates freely in a horizontal plane upon the gudgeon-c.

The frame may be :fur-ther supported, and its'motion steadied, byrneans of rollers or casters, a a, attachedto its under side, and running upon a'cireular track. The track may be made in the form of a circular or annular platform, E, supported upon independent posts, or upon arms, c e', branching out from thc main standard, C. From the outer ends oi' the beams D D', sweeps, F F F2 F3, extend upward, then outward and downward nearlyto the surface ot`- the water, where the boats H H are attached to them by a rope, I, and are caused Wto sail around the wharf by means of horse-power, or other power, applied to the sweeps or to the frame D D', as

The whole apparatus-can be erected and maintained at but little expense, and will forni an ornamental and` very desirable appurtcnancc to a gentlenians grounds. It will be far safer for the use of children than is Vthe ordinary sail-boat, and eanbc employed in all kinds of weather, operating as well in a calm as at any other time. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
